okay next time just one introduce our workshop chair person and I've had the opportunity to hear him speak and I I really enjoyed it I think it's gonna be real good this morning one thing's like about he's one of those A. speakers that I I agree with them and so you know that helps and just let him take over command of Chris
my name's Chris Raymond I'm an alcoholic
it's an amazing thing you know I made some copies I give at the end of this will be a lie I made about seventy five I figured if we had twenty people show up on a Saturday morning at eleven o'clock right before lunch would be a miracle you know yourself so we have met the five percent these copies but
what James said is true
the people who
the people that
I can identify with what I'm saying
nine times out of ten or
real alcoholics who are chronic relapse hers who have tried every other way and didn't work and I finally went to what we just read it and how it works god couldn't would if he were sought and he got everything else out of the sun and now we do this and so
thank you you know and and everybody else out here I know as a bunch of you in the audience I'm gonna be speaking to the choir for some of you some of you I'm I'm picks to make real uncomfortable
and that's okay do you know this is a cool thing this little workshop dealing ordinarily when I speak from the podium I get a chance to give model story and you guys get a chance to come up after the meeting and taking exception with everything I've said nope that's a cool thing and if you're talking eleven o'clock you know it gives all the other speakers rest we can take pot shots at me that and that's cool too and they will and they will could you see I got this reputation of being a real controversy and and wasn't always like that I used to get my story yeah
for
they didn't get very often because nobody really want to hear what I got to say but what happened was
I got tired of watching people die in this fellowship and I got tired of watching people sit in these rooms inside well god damn I got fifteen years sobriety but I'm I'm contemplating suicide you know I got tired of people not understanding that you can recover from this illness called alcoholism I'll tell you we've got some drug addicts in here you can recover from that too he just substitute the word with what everything I'm saying this morning because it's applicables in this particular sense I don't believe is drugs a drug is a drug I'm not here to I don't believe that **** ask any crack addict he'll take you know I mean this is a joke but I believe in this in the context we're talking about here I think we can substitute everything what we're talking about because it absolutely works November thirteenth eighty seven I
listen to the gym this morning
you know the I. stores were the same I wasn't an artist I was a professional chef and other than that I mean our stores were identical and that and I I I started drinking and in a big shot bars in Houston and doing all the cool things that we all day drink and get back Houston ultimately Galleria clubs you know one is all that neat and I ended up in Lewisville Texas drinking Schaper live
black label Schaper live nothing but the best for Chris Raymer and I and I took a corner that stuff in a bottle of pills that I've been stockpiling for ever
and try to just check out you know I'm an identical twin I have a wonderful family I have plenty of love in my family a bright future but the internal condition was so uncomfortable for me I could not
I couldn't stand it and I'm suffering from a thing we called alcoholism and and whether I'm drinking or not drinking I'm still uncomfortable inside if I were in Saint James on this morning you know that means over ten days and thinking that he set the world on fire you don't even over ten days and but it feels like you've been over ten years because you're you're I mean how much longer can we hold on white knuckle C.
I tried to commit suicide and at the last minute I had my little moment of clarity and I was talking to James earlier we we we we had similar spiritual experiences I believe I heard the word of god said Chris you've never given the fellowship of a a a try you've been around it for for eight years you've been going to hundreds of meetings you've been doing everything that you know would you be indebted to women who drank their coffee you know yet pissed and moaned in their meetings you know you you occupy their time but you but you really never did do with the book ask you to do we just read how it works you never did do that did you know no I didn't I made myself sick that night and I boarded that suicide attempt in the next day as sick as I was I
found my way back into another a a meeting I'm gonna tell you straight going in the door it wasn't an a a meeting like any other I. a meeting it was in a meeting where everybody was carrying big books now you got to hear what I'm saying everybody was carrying big books from the brand new sobriety to the old coot they all had a point of reference and they were on the table and they were ready to use them and it was no opinion sharing in that meeting everybody came out of the but when the big book study it was a at a meeting like a a was supposed to be it was a pep rally we talked about the power of god and it's what I needed to hear because I was so depressed I just wanted to die yes I'm twenty four hours away from a suicide attempt but I'm ready to go back there right now because because because I don't know how god or gods my body not coming apart at the seams you follow what I'm saying I'm so the net meeting detoxing and all people loved me enough to spell out my spill coffee and Pat me on the head inside body you know is that just about coming to meetings this is about working some steps and what we want you to do is we want you to recover from this bullshit I'm a start up right now and tell you right now I've attended class on occasion apologize going in the door it is disrespectful and I'm trying to get better at it
I am better at it
I will try and do it by I'm done doing great okay
those people loved me enough to tell me the truth
an offer ever be grateful to those people and let me tell you something most of those people that were in that room that night are still sober today because they continue to work the steps and they continue to do what we're talking about
Senate earlier them bless her heart thanks for asking me to come do this I took a lot of courage she first thing I remember is the governor of the telephone she says he says that Chris I heard your tape it up I just got to tell you about the ballot I don't like you you know and
he said that after listening to it a while I I realize that what you have to say is I know I understand that I said this I think every time I've spoken the last five years especially I would like nothing better to come up here to this little workshop and say nothing controversial and tell you a few sad stories and I thought I got it in me I could have you guys cried in your seat I it's been a lot of time eating out of dumpsters in Houston Texas I could tell you some sad stories you know but but let me tell you something eleven years sober today my life is poses
I have had a spiritual experience as a result of working the steps okay James you know and and I and I and I can't come up here and and try to pull you with my war stories what I can do though is pull you with the vision of what your life can be like when you recover from this stupid illness you see that's the thing down in the front here I almost wept yesterday when I saw it I didn't realize I guess I've seen it on the flyer but I didn't notice it our common solution is one of my favorite pages in the big book on page seventeen in the big book it's at it we have a common problem and a common problem is one thing that ties together right James is a real alcoholic I'm real about Jim's real alcoholic I moved with my friend right I'm sure the podium with him before he's a real real McCoy you know I mean
pence is inside of a gun you know I don't know what does that you know I just
yeah he's just
how do you know what you don't know if you've never been there you don't understand and see this is this is the platform I'm on today because all of a sudden I'm looking around the room and and it's pretty ludicrous at its absolute absolute stupid of me to think that everyone of us is on the same playing field because we're not you see some of us in this room are real alcoholics
this three four places in the big book rebel Wilson talks about the real alcoholic folks he wanted us to make the distinction by god if you're real alcoholic there's certain things that you must here in order to survive this disease if you're not all the other political stuff in the world might help you stay sober if you can get through this little piece for you with me I think it's the only really controversial thing I'm gonna say up here everybody and a eight is not alcoholic
I don't understand it there wasn't understood in the very front of the book on page twenty
why I happen to have a copy right here
let's find out when you see because if you're the real McCoy if you're properly diagnosed there is only one solution for you it was the books say
the book said god couldn't would if he were sought my solution
is the same as race I got to have a spiritual experience yeah would be nice if I got all this other stuff treated on the side yes absolutely is my life going to get better when I get all that treated absolutely but nothing is gonna change me around the drinking unless it's by god
six this is Chris from his opinion this is not some treatment center crap and I work at a treatment center and I'll take their inventory to this is got nothing to do with treatment this is got nothing to do with therapy this is got nothing to do with process group this has got nothing to do with your app and feelings
this is got to do with the relationship with god period in the statement that's what bill Wilson said that's what doctor Bob that's the combined experience of the first one hundred
you will have a spiritual experience if you are an alcoholic or an addict or you will die you will drink again
I feel so much better having said that I just
I can't tell you just make me so thank you
the tool but the question gets a passionate up there that I get passionate because I'm not lying to anybody I'm not blowing smoke up anybody's but
and let me tell you something folks and we're going to talk about it we're gonna let's talk about it now
everybody says all Christmas are so opinionated about that you see there's other ways to get sober you see but I disagree again if you're the real alcoholic the book says that we have to have a spiritual experience
yep you just happen to be a moderate drinker a heartbreaker like the book talks about that we're fixing to read then maybe you could maybe that little war bubbly bath all the candles can help you
maybe thinking through the drink can fix you
if you have the power to do that but you see the book I'm saying again in three places I can take you to write directly it says if you're one of us
the real alcoholic the man and woman on page twenty one
you've placed yourself beyond human aid
what's a eight
a group of humans in
what's my therapist
what's my treatment center
what's the church
now folks I'm not trying to be a horse is put to death here I'm just saying we're collection of human beings you can all help me but there's not one of you in the I don't care how many degrees you have I don't care how connected you are they can
guarantee me a relationship with god
Alcoholics Anonymous if you pick up if you pick up any any index anywhere
you get the Hazleton you know the catalogs are you glad here you don't look up look up in the the national library of Congress has got the big book under self help
would you see everybody that would be but we missed the point you see because because that's what I was trying to do folks for eight years was trying to help myself right
I can't help myself
something sandy said was Sosa think this morning so she said she she made the distinction between being in recovery and being recovered and and and and and I want to make the same distinction I'm a recovered alcoholic let me tell you something folks I am not perfect obviously
but I'm telling you this the desire to drink and drug left me two weeks into the fellowship two weeks after finally come back eight years into the program I am not in recovery I'm not a recovered anything I just a fruit cake trying to hold on to everything dear near and dear and two weeks in the recovery without sponsors helping a bunch of loved ones just like you guide me hold me accountable I got out of my truck in Lewisville Texas and the desire to drink and drug it left me
it is never returned
I thought if you don't call it recovery I don't know what is yeah we keep let everybody off the hook we keep one to play with these words in the big book we we keep going to put our own funding interpretations on what this means what do you think it was a really meant what this really says recovered hundreds of times in the book I think he means what he says I'm a very title pages have how many thousands of men and women have recovered it means that they woke up one morning and the desire to drink it left
not that's recovered folks I don't care what are they still not cases do they still have relationship problems do they still have other areas they need to deal with of course
man listen I got a step son is driving me crazy I don't know nothing about kids these kids eleven years old and and you know
I'm not condoning child abuse you know but
but I just got to say that I understand a little bit more I'm a little more empathetic with what's going on here you know I'm one of those that used to sit on the meetings and listen to people talk about the kiss is
what you grow up who's the adult you don't you just just just little people no they're not they're not they're little monsters I guarantee they know where everyone your buttons is and I'm having a hell of a time with my yep do I still need to work on this of course M. I. C. N. somebody special on the side I E. a therapist a brown this year
because I don't want to be a bad father I had a great father he was a drunk but he was gentle and kind and I don't know where that stuff comes from but that's not me I I have very little patience with the little guy and I need some help with that
you follow me but six years ago and Jeannie and I got married you know I don't I don't know a lot about being married I didn't know if
I can't see I can't even spell monogamous one of my go to my doctor about it you know I mean I went and I need some help with that I need to go in and and so what's up so do I find a good therapist I find somebody to talk to about that so that some of the women in the fellowship to help me work with it yes yes but I recovered from alcoholism eleven years ago
I mean let's cut to the chase
we got people sit around a adhered in meetings all the time well you didn't get this sick overnight you're not gonna get well overnight you can have sanctimonious argument one killing people with a dog and opinions
where does it say that the big book
bill also had a spiritual experience that Intel hospital working on his ninth step boat he was still detoxing when he had a spiritual experience talk about a little less than two weeks alcoholic number three a little less than a week
already what the steps they're out there working with other alcoholics within the week and we tell these cats to sit around and take your time Mike you're not ready to work with anybody you've only been sober six
god tells you when you're ready folks
god tells you when you slow down and do the work with the sponsor who's had a spiritual experience and you have your own spiritual experience I don't give a rat's **** if you're two days over it's time to work with another alcoholic and addict folks we're losing the battle out there I do clerical work for treatment center and I get hundreds hundreds thousands of people who that treatments in a year I need to tell you this for six years we watched people come to this facility it's a great facility I'm not taking any I'm there's no better no worse than anybody else's but I'm just sitting at a science I've got a this little microcosm that I get to work on it I get to watch it what's the true thing about all of them all of them come to us through a a in a in a in CA all of them come to us through the twelve step movement and they come into my rooms and then they get this look of disappointment when I look upon our walls and they see the twelve step the twelve traditions like a post **** more this
what's up my book I said I did a a it it didn't work
I know you did the same thing I did for eight years you said around the rooms and talked stuff for eight years you you you you set the meetings you drank the coffee you did a lot of other stuff but you didn't actually do what we just read in the book which is called how it works you didn't do that did you
what I did to the best of my ability I just wanna peek was he show me in the book we talked about that the book this is a yes or no question did you start on the title page and do everything it asked me to do it paid one sixty four did you do all three inventories that they're forced it did did you go make all your damn the man's
but are you actively out there working with other alcoholics folks recovery is guaranteed if you do those things it's a promise that the book tells you have you done to work or not
well
no
I think they need to be quiet sedam
I let's look at this thing with an open mind folks I'm looking around the fellowship but I've seen a whole bunch of people out there who've got some time under their belt sober but their powder dry they're miserable
that's not recovered that's that's I'm not saying you're not gonna go through bad times
photo you know what I had a bicycle accident a year ago in Indian hit stupid deer on a bicycle I think I'm the only person the world's ever done that
it was the end and didn't know that dear didn't live either I mean I know it was a tough deal and I was lucky I survived that son of a guy to get a pen sticking out my shoulder to prove it but I'm saying I'm saying you know
why would that happen to me another Kerr the message I mean I've
is life just happens you know why does my wife get migraines who knows yeah yeah I understand what I'm saying what a people die but if people get sick while we go through financial problem I don't know I don't I don't I don't know but can you get through all of that with grace and dignity of course you can't because we see people in the fellowship do it every day but what the problem is I believe I believe is that we just don't hold enough people accountable about this thing you see if Mary's not happy we need to stop Pat on the head and say keep coming back at work we just like once you work in the damn steps that got us to a place where we can be happy joyous and free what you doing the same thing we did you follow me everybody everybody
all we have to treat the women different we have to treat them African Americans if we have to treat the Mexicans get we have to take the Vietnam vets they all get treated different you know the people that were molested they have to be treated different the people that
hi folks stick with me for just a second please please please let me back out of this hole I'm just dug myself I'm not saying that although that's not important it is
but show me the four hundred sixty four pages where it says that that's the key to keep it keep it sick
the book says no matter what your present circumstances it says on page one hundred you're free to get taken to a different place if you will but subscribe to this process god's power is infinite not argue with anybody about that you what I did you did you want to do the same thing to me that I did to you for eight years well but you don't understand we can all do it using my case is different yeah tell me tell me how your case is different
ma'am
we get this great little again this little microcosm that the treatment facility we get to see these people come in and I'll drive another big limo and they just got out of their big jet you know at Moonee airport and they'll come in and they'll the god you know you get out it's just wet pants you know any well yeah you're well you're cool you know she
half a million dollar jet you're still pissing your pants white it's got nothing to do with money doesn't
they go what's in the S. A. you in a little special care unit down there any sit right next to little house watching he's got a wife husband and I live in a little burned out trailer there's no electricity on it and bless her little heart she's trying to raise the baby the best she can you know but but she's eaten a few too many pills you know and she's drinking a little bit more than she needs to you follow me she looked at that rate somebody says they want your money I would never happened during
right he's looking back at her and said Jesus Christ you just got a couple of kids and they will let you live once you lose the son of a **** imagine everything about okay say it's easy to look at
a judge everybody around us to point a finger and tell them what they need to do to get sober you see the bill Wilson intuitively understood it wasn't about our circumstances let's get down to brass tacks here raise your hand if you wanna participate if you don't that's cool too how many of you drank a drug when you had a whole lot of money in your pocket
how many dragon when you don't have any money in your pocket
how many dragon W. lived in a big city like Houston and set yet how many drug read when you live a little chicken bites like Ingram Texas
hello Hey Nathan Ingram Texas but cheap looking for Daddy's I can tell you that
it is small it is not how many dragon drug when you were a great relationship
every dragon blood when you didn't have any kind of relationship
yeah
we just lay there hands up
I think is what we're doing over cut to the chase here you're drinking and drugging is exasperated by a lot of this stuff is loneliness a because of some of it yes it'll it'll it'll make you drink more is is is fear once yes yes yes go on down the road is poverty something yes yes
but did it because it the books as we got to get down to because of the condition what what's the bottom line
could it possibly be that you're a member of a very small segment of this world this just wired different than other people
about ten percent of the population in the world folks is alcoholic I don't know why nobody seems to know I have an identical twin brother that's an alcoholic my father was an alcoholic my little sister who's a year and three months younger than me he's never had a problem with alcohol at all she drives us crazy we always take the guess that Allah go to dinner with her and she sits down and and get your drink you know that you have to get a like a Carta Blanca you know something that can be listed on the Mexican food just said take couple steps and then she'll start the old the messing with the label you know should be peeling the label and she be talking in biz then and I'm looking at Mars and Mars my brother he's looking at me and we're just let you know your body just
are you drink that or not
I mean we got plenty of time here will get you two or three you don't have to make it last may be the the tabs on us break it you know she she says no thank you it just takes a little off
not that I see people with wide like that you slide it back across it tastes it tastes a little better
I don't care if it's got a dead cricket club manager
are you gonna drink it or not I mean if you're not home you put to the best of them just go to
breaking for the tasteful tonight drinking for the experience of effervescence all these other happy we're talking I'm drinking because I wanna get downtown I drink and drug for the affected net right I want to get downtown and everybody would usually we talk about this in a family group and everybody looks reckons scratch their head they kind of teetering hope I think I guess he's funny I just they cannot relate to what we're talking about because they don't understand what we're talking about right because they have the power of choice they believe we should have the power of choice
we are not like them
I'm gonna go back to my original premise if your heart breaker or a hard drive moderate drinker or a modern
turn to page twenty
okay
moderate drinkers have literally giving up liquor entirely they have good reason for it they can take it or leave it alone
any of you all out there yeah yeah really maybe a little girl selling raffle tickets I who knows you know
then we have a certain type of heart drinker now this is what bill wasn't talking about listen to talk about all the stupid drama this is what we got so many kids died in the fellowship they can't get sober right this is why we have so many young adults leaving the fellowship because everybody wants to talk about the stupid **** drama but the drums got nothing to do with it does it what is the books say
then we have a certain type of heart drinker
he may have had to have it bad enough to gradually impairs cell physically and mentally may cause this bug free to die a few years before their time but here it is it was efficient strong E. reason comes along ill health falling in love changement barber warning from a doctor becomes operative this man or woman can also stop a moderate although they may find it difficult troublesome may even need medical attention hard drinker Jim was talking about this morning I think you know this is this what we're talking about doctor said you got a little problem okay a moderate I'll stop for a day or two and we go right straight back to it given sufficient reason it's affecting your health can you stop
you know what's stopping folks
stop you know
my kids yeah we get a little rest and badges and I gave him in the side you don't E. finally get that look on his face and he says stop he means it don't do it again because the funds over with now I'm hurting him now I'm driving crazy so we just stop means stop what's the next sentence right but what about
the real alcoholic
C. boat as long as we got real alcoholics in this world as long as we get real addicts in this world I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing here I'm gonna keep splitting hairs of this business so that we understand we can recover from this thing I want to apologize one more time if you're not one of us and you think I'm abrasive with this business because I'm I'm going against eleven tolerance and everything's okay in any way you want to do this is fine with me if you believe that that that if if it's working for you go for it but as long as there's people out here like the real alcoholic like my friend right we're gonna keep talking about this because we need to understand if there is hope there is absolute hope for us
god I wish somebody nineteen seventy nine it told me that he keep coming back at work and I did for eight years and nearly died
nobody said this idiot it ain't it ain't about meetings
it's about working the steps so that you can have your spiritual experience the steps are a path to god folks it's not a self help program
let's read this paragraph but what about the real alcoholic he may or may not be hard I'm not a drinker he may or may not become a continuous hard drinker but some stage was drinking career he begins to lose all control of its consumption once he starts follow me
folks this is what a real alcoholic is you go again you could substitute the word drugs and this is what a real drug addict yes it's about control in choice and that's it
period end of statement that's what the book says on dozens of pages it's about control and choice it has got nothing to do with your F. and drama
I don't care how many penitentiaries you've been in that's not why you're an alcoholic
we can sit here right now it's like all you be therapist today and I'll be the drunk and you're going to diagnose me with alcoholism and I'm gonna give you a little information on the site okay I'm here to see you I've just had my second DWI and my wife and I are fixing to get a divorce have I given you enough information to diagnose me with alcoholism
yeah if you see a lot of some of those you need to know this
a lot of service was absolutely he's an alcoholic but she does not with the books said what you need to do is start asking me to call two key questions exactly what the what the book ask me when I'm drinking can I guarantee you every time that I can control how much I'm going to drink my can I go to the go down here to the to little little pond out here really took the garden and we're gonna split a six pack and I'm gonna drink one he's gonna drink one can I guarantee you that every time I go to drink with him but I can just drink one beer
can I guarantee you how much I'm gonna drink every time look at your experience both look at the truth based on your experience
well now I can sometimes you know get enough pressure on their you know good looking woman says Chris you know you'd be a good boy and and maybe tonight when we get home little pokey pokey okay
and so I go out I had two beers I have two beers with dinner and I and I control it but not right if you ask me mom I go straight to their they're not fooling myself because what I do the next night she said Chris that works so well why don't we do it again tonight the heck with you you know it when that good anyway forget it hello
because I'm not drink it I'm not drink it I'm doing it because I'm trying to treat that spiritual sickness inside right okay can you can can you guarantee me you can control it every time no
okay that means you have the phenomenal craving the doctor's opinion talked about now then exactly what we just read on page twenty one if given sufficient reason you can quit on your own you're not one of us
and that right so the nice lady says just exactly like Jim to talk about this morning he said he said my wife said that you need to quit he said okay the love that woman yes if you want to be married to her yes do you have the power to stop on his own
no
textbook alcoholic
in the book does it say you got to go to prison I have the W. eyes are getting fight to rob liquor stores a blackout a picture paints to do anything else no no we're in there there's a bunch of that stuff in the store section in the back but in the four hundred sixty four pages it just talked about control and choice and if you're one of us vote you will never get any better
it's a progressive illness and it will get worse and you will eventually die from it and some of you are feeling some tension in your gut you haven't felt in years
it's like a death sentence stick around your neck
look at this sign right here
see we got a common problem folks this alcoholism I wish I could control it and I wish I could stop when I chose to do it
every time but I can't
so what do I do just keep drinking
the book says you'll keep drinking
are your six Burchell solution and that what it says
that brings us what we're talking about today folks
back in the early days of Alcoholics Anonymous back in the early days nineteen thirty five we came together in nineteen thirty nine we first got the big book published recovery rates for through the ceiling some of this pretty literal give yet talks about this stuff
I want to show you is real quick there's a little books out there that I saw some back on the table back there good book in the big big beat talks about some of this list some of this this information will talk about right now
back to basics Wally P. out of Phoenix great guy talks about this stuff about the early days of a history books are full of it archives you go took a look at the big regular Alcoholics Anonymous conference approved literature a comes of age and up past it on bill bill Wilson's autobiography a lot of the stuff that we're talking about talk about this everyone of these books it explains to us how our success rate was so good back then and what we were doing to receive that success right what we were doing was teaching the newcomers exactly how to stay sober
we have a whole bunch of valuable time trying to explain to people how they can't stop relapsing relaxing it is not necessary
we got a whole industry grown up around this relapse thing relapse it's just inevitable no what's the spiritual experience takes place in god's power kicks in relapse is not necessary the desire to drink is removed from you completely and you go through this world kicking **** and taking names now that's been my experience and the experience of thousands of other alcoholics and addicts that I've had the privilege to work with everybody that does the work has a spiritual experience gets taken to a different place and everybody that doesn't doesn't and the other vocal majority and I A. today they're the ones that want to come up to take exception and make a bunch of them excuses why this won't work
I again am I making fun of your issues know
let me say something first we're gonna talk about this issue because that seems to be the key piece around this relapse prevention fiasco that we're dealing with here because everybody believes that if you can just keep yourself out of hot water to keep yourself out of situations where there's drinking and drug that you won't drink and drugs and I'm sat in a room full of people who realize a hole like that understand that absolute horse crap in that right
I mean I was in the pope let's do this first in the early days of the H. P. again if you'll pick up any of the history books and read this stuff our success rate in the check in the forward to the second edition of the big book it's something you gotta sit on your lap it tells you straight out of the people that came to our fellowship about sixty five percent were getting sober it once
some
after a little in and out trip to find out if they really were one of us are not
have came back and did what we ask you to do and stayed sober so by the time all the dust settles we were having like about a seventy five percent success rate this is published two places in the big book back in the doctor's opinion excuse me back in the in the forwards and back in the back in the last words of the medical profession back in the appendix it talks about it
again the archives are talking about clearance asters booked out here on the table that I noticed early this morning talk about current Snyder then you're a hundred percent success rate around Cleveland Dr Bob around Akron I'm telling you damn near a hundred percent success rate with people coming into the fellowship
you can pick up any archive there is today you can talk to any archivist you could talk to in New York if you can get past all the small talk to finally get down to brass tacks and tell your success rate United States right now sucks
that's a paraphrase they will never say that
but you can get it down and take black and white that success rate United States run around twenty percent our brothers sisters over Houston Texas are experiencing about eight percent success rate right now you guys don't have to be rocket scientists look at your own meetings with your own fellowships and watch the people come and go back out come and go back out come and go back out the group that I sobered up in I was just talking to Scott this morning you know when when Margaret was there we had a little dispenser with a little chip like a bunker thing you just slide chips out you know who wants the chips and every
everybody gets that comes is what is it because nobody stands over
why because we were using our meetings as therapy groups we were using our meeting is process groups we were not using the meetings as pep rallies to talk about god one more time about this and I didn't I wish I thought this up
this is a spiritual program books this is not you know alcoholism and drug addiction is not a behavioral problem
you're very didn't just get set on a body backwards one time and like I said we got them up there to wrestle now I'm an alcoholic you know other than we've we've got sociologist out there working overtime trying to figure out why this is
it's not the truth
you look up in highland village in north Texas any the penny the any the richer places to live you look at he's been homes because subdivisions up there river oaks over in Houston Texas and you you guys you can go in there if you had a way to do this you could pinpoint you could try to figure about ten percent of those people in there are alcoholic and addict you go over to the other part good and please go to some these other parts what are some areas in there with a riddle with poverty there's some real poverty there and you go through there and look and see if you got about ten percent alcoholic and addict there are other more drugs and alcohol in the poor areas she does a lot more drinking down there but it's but given sufficient reason those people can take thank you I've had enough push it away and going back about their business
ten percent across the board folks men women but but everybody wants to split hairs with his business I tell you if I say one thing from the podium is controversial it's this everybody wants to come inside yeah but you understand using this had something to do with the right this had something to do with the molestation this had something to do with Vietnam this had some
I'm not saying that it didn't exasperated I'm not saying that it didn't fit you didn't drink over that but I'm saying this if you'll go back to what the book says given sufficient reason why don't you deal with those issues now go
you follow what I'm saying
I mean I got like a kind of a point to get here
ten years ago insurance companies used to pay for treatment like slot machine right I mean if you had the shittiest of policies they would pay for treatment that's just the way it was within the last ten years treatment via insurance companies has dropped by about seventy three percent
why we got we got we need we have less people that need it or what
no
thank you Mr crack cocaine we have twice as many people now that need it you'll understand that we we got a nightmare out there but why don't why the insurance companies pay for itself so readily
because
this is gonna be good these images I'm gonna say this real quick we're not passing the bass will get past it now so that you can get your dollar before you stormed out the door because this is going to pay some of yall I'm just telling you start because now here's what we have now here's what we have we've got a whole bunch of people coming to treatment dealing with issues walking back out of treatment never picking up the big book never going to twelve step meetings never doing any twelve step work never do what we have to do and and and I'm not staying sober insurance comes after years of abuse finally said we're not paying for that **** anymore
why should we pay for my to get the treatments fifteen **** done why
we got to get started with this why should we we should
because the solution is not if he's a real alcoholic and addict about his issues
is he a better person when he did not come use me as an example I can't use my because he may see me
use me as an example pretend up issue ma'am it it it that that thought at the facility I work at we we got this little guy on the board I look for a board is my good invited we're gonna put him up there you know but I think I'm I'm issue man right in sync why I'm breaking my name tags model heart I'm drinking because spiritually I'm in need of some rejuvenation and that right spiritually I'm dead what everybody I don't think they do that I mean I'm not a happy camper Jim tell his story this morning right last night I mean Gee you're certain that you can sure apartment on metal busted down couch watching it back what television for you not a drink you are not happy you know people out there in the world I think were partying down we're just you just need to learn as quick party in so much folks visit with his long beyond party that that that lady walking in that crack house that she was raped at do not for he's not going back to get some more party
I don't understand that she's trying to get to a place with a crack cocaine so she can be okay inside we got to get straight with his business the books as I drink and drug for the effect produced by the drugs so I'm standing up here I'm spiritually bankrupt I died inside and so what I want to do is get okay inside right
so now I got about fifteen thousand people tried to help me try to treat everything outside
I need to say this now before I don't get it in later a lot of this still goes on in my AA meetings today
it's call junior therapy sessions
well I just haven't been able to find a babysitter that's good you know then and then and then it's a we're gonna for the entire hour talking about baby sitters
hello all right now everybody's done everybody set meetings and just like that well I'm going through a divorce and I need to talk about my divorce well OK Humm how nice for you
photo I'm not I'm not coming off any spiritual mountaintop I did it for years but I'm saying what is the book ask us to do the book asked us to talk about the hope and the power of god
but what we do it in their face and moaning about the traffic in there talking about the probation officer in there talking about anti depressants you know talk about building relationships in there talking about the kids in there talk about everything under the sun except what we're supposed to talk about which is the power of god
did you know you got some stuff you need to talk about how we all got stuff we need to talk about that's why god gives his therapist find one
but in my meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous of cocaine anonymous of unite in my meetings we need to be talking about the power of god we need to be talking about how can you have a spiritual experience if you want to talk about anything else besides that in my a meeting you're in the wrong place
we let go every day I just want to
well she just she just so upset you just need a place to share well
as a severity Danny's
I said it a thousand times
we all do this and we all applauded we also increase your rights and they will go to a meeting tomorrow night they'll be some little lady there some little guy there and he want to talk about his probation officer and everybody just crossed her hand going on just going to go off to sleep
and we'll just let him do it you know what the proper response is there this is Bubba Bubba excuse me just a minute
we're not gonna talk about that right now you need to help find a sponsor would talk about that right now we're gonna talk about the power of god we'll talk about how to have a spiritual experience so that you have the power to deal with all of that
back to me
I'm convinced that my drinking early days was all around loneliness and women I was just like my heart went out to to the Buckley this morning we was talking he's explained top about this loneliness and you know adolescence is tough enough when you're good looking kid when you're a little on the home side
it's a **** I'm just telling you know
and I'm blind in one eye and ideologies this is yeah I mean the cards are stacked against me and I do what I can just get this one to go out with me everything to be okay you know the you know the bomb I'm talking about with the because who knows yes if I could just get you know but see here's what life does to us and then the book we finally get the date the blunder I don't understand how many people have ever done it recover what you what you pray for good you might get it you know oh god please just send the Burnett my way
and you wake up one morning and she's eating breakfast across from right across the table from you you're watching her put the dentures are having issues getting it out of the bottle on the floor and you thank god if you could just if you could just take this woman from me you don't
I never really noticed me in the right
how may be at risk for a job that you did you always want if I could just I was in the food business right if I could just get to be shift to partake everything would be cool where one of the big white hats I think it's the tickets at the door I got a big hats what I want and then you have god does god takes care of his kids and I get to where the big hat well that's not good enough but I could just get to be sous chef well if I could just get to be the turnout well if I could just get to be executive chef
I'm certain shifts offspring include one that I'm thinking god you know if I could just have that little barbecue place down the corner
you know in their lives and you get a little barbecue place and you got to be there all the time so you're starting to tons of cocaine and you think you know but if I could just get a catering company
if I could just get out of this and sale food now see those sales and that's where the real money is if I was a salesman I wouldn't have to drink
any salesman here does she had unbelievable yeah yeah and I'm sitting up at lake Texoma on the lake it's about eleven o'clock in the afternoon you know in the morning and I'm drinking a twelve pack of beer and I've got the want ads open I'm looking as if you know the sale should I cut out the way I thought it was going to be you know I'm sort of I'm too afraid to go make sales calls so every day I go get my toe back go to the lake
some of you like you never done that you know you know what you never went to the movies when you're supposed to be outselling huh you live like a dog okay
but here it is I'm steady blaming everybody well if I could just get married okay just get on there at all if I could just buy the house or we could just sell the house your understand what I'm saying
Jesus if it hadn't been for this it hadn't been for that if it hadn't been for that should not for years sitting by the table and ragi apart like we're talking about with a legal cap it there and I'm a write down all the reasons why I can't have a good relationship
money
you know personal hygiene
little PP I know
I mean I've got it all figured out
I wanted we could pull that off the table I don't know how
okay
we don't see the whole picture here reason everyone of you all have done it reporter St point fingers blaming everybody else in the world and so we come into AA or we go into a treatment facility and we want to do the same thing we've been doing for years I want to tell you how to do this so that I can stay sober and what's the truth broke and we got to cut to the chase here because I wanna keep you got real long but we got cut to the chase
mmhm
do any of you think that we're gonna be able to
arrange your life so it would be so perfect that you won't have to drink I mean have we made that perfectly clear in this last hour you know your life when you got money you don't have money or in a relationship rather Lysons ship it's got nothing to do with whether not you're gonna be drinking or not say but we spent a lot of time trying to get you guys to organize your life so that you don't have to drink follow me
I live in a give young adult and you know that you take away all that that Metallica T. shirt you know you can't wear them without you these are you does that rock and roll music and you can't do this at
they they
hi I just go ahead do it without having to talk about and drink it all the time and there was a talk with his **** triggers list you know me when we got to get down straight with his business what is this
you're gonna make me a list of things that you think are causing you to drink and we're gonna get rid of all that you're still going to be drinking so why mess with it
am I drinking because Metallica turned up out of the house give me operate
what I think you will when it was when it was the sleep at the wheel when was Merle Haggard it doesn't matter
all of the women
you're triggering me even as we speak
well but I mean we we look at the will of the people coming to drink until this was serious but you need to be careful my father went through treatment in Dallas Texas and they told him what he needed to do if you want to stay sober was divorced his wife
been thinking about going to meeting you get involved with you guys going to twelve step work at the halfway house didn't say anything about get out of a selfish self centered self by trying to help somebody else he just said you need to dump the woman and then you can stay sober this is absolute heresy and I'm gonna tell you what it's another form of abuse it's another form of abuse the absolute arrogance of me to sit here and tell you what you need to do with your life
I don't even know what I need to do with my life hello I'm gonna sit here and tell you what to do with your life
we got too many people share opinions with us in meetings we have a solution right here well what is that a common solution I think so
common solution one solution works for me works for young adults works for the
gays the straight blacks whites
the disease is the same calendar stand
if my friend James got diarrhea and I got diarrhea there's a pretty good chance of the same damn medications going to help him it helps me in that the truth
I could probably come up with a different analogy on that but even
but I think the graphic illustration was taken right
but we have people in meetings is longer on that topic telling people just don't drink
but you see where the big book does it say that
did we just say that we were without turn face
twenty three twenty four we'll do this and let you guys out here
I had a bunch to do here but I'm around time
twenty four there's a paragraph in a policies bill Wilson this is part of the most controversial paragraphs in the big book it's absolutely heresy to read it in a meeting so be sure you don't do it yup you pissed somebody off and we want to do that for Christ's sake
I'm more concerned with you in your sense of the feelings that I am with whether not used by the power of god so let's get straight here the fact is that most alcoholics for reasons yet to secure it lost the power of choice and drink our so called will power becomes practically nonexistent we are unable at certain times to bring into our consciousness with sufficient force the memory of suffering and humiliation of even a week or a month ago still here I just said we are
without defense against the first drink
that's why there was an understanding that the absolute necessity to have the spiritual experience because because you may be able to keep yourself over today that's why we teach you the stuff and treatment some of the stuff the triggers list the the the preventive things that we ask you guys to do if going back and hang out metal bar was it if you drank at your stand out at bar would help you stay sober to you get your feet on the ground and that's why we do that you understand but see the message has been so watered down we got so many people believe that what we're trying to explain to you is that that's going to keep you sober if I just stay out do you guys ever taken a geographical cures
you know I can't tell you how disheartened I was when I found out there was alcohol in Atlanta Georgia
but I went there with a with a clear and understanding that I was gonna get sober over there the problem is I took the spiritual malady with me right this internal condition and that label
we're going to be unable to remember
the horror stories that happened to us even a week or a month ago in that with the book just said
so let me ask you a question just for grants why we spend so much time in our meetings telling more stories
now we have these little conventions and conferences like this we get to get up here right people get up and share the the torture they've been through and I'm telling you what if you weren't touched by the two speakers we've heard so far something's wrong with you
the miracle that they went through
but if I haven't had a spiritual experience and the internal condition reached such a point that I get caught with a book called a mental blank spot I don't remember ray said story and I don't remember jams and I promise you I won't remember yours I'm not even gonna remember mine I'm just going to pick up a drink and go use yet cannot scare an alcoholic into sobriety
that's absolutely right but we we continue to do it in meetings so I wanna puke
what what all the people coming to us in a treatment facility situation
listen folks I sobered up in Alcoholics Anonymous thank god there were people there that would give me the solution to what I needed to do I didn't so rapid treatment
not again I'm not not contribute a bunch of people in here got sober intrigue but I'm telling you what's going to keep him sober is not the treatment what's going to keep him sober is the power of god they're going to find in these rooms every day when they go to that new meeting absolutely absolutely
when they go to that new meeting but brown bags meeting cross town and they're sitting down there even a ham sandwich and there in that room full of people and listen to people talk about how their lives have been changed because of the power god they're gonna walk out of that room absolutely convicted that what they're doing is right and as I go work with other alcoholics they're going to know that they're on the right path because they're outside themselves and your father in science but they happen to be unlucky enough to end up in a piece of mowing contest in one of these meetings where everybody wants to sit around commiserate about their problems they may get up and go drink
one of the books on the same page are common problem is but one element of the power of cement that binds that that in itself could not hold us together
it's a common solution that holds us together
if you're walking back into a meeting and sharing anything but positive powerful stuff you're wrong
your role in the emergence of you to think you can do it
why did we have seventy five a hundred percent get sore back then because they didn't do that **** I I was not a therapy group
I I was a pep rally but it's the truth Hey was a pep rally come on folks I love the new years sober I'm a man that
not not
I do not want those women I did not want to hurt anybody I didn't want to keep my employer
I didn't want to hurt my family
the disease took me some terrible places you think I want to eat out of dumpsters in Houston Texas please give me a break
our goal take you to places you don't want to be
and we can walk back into these rooms and talk about until the cows come home and nothing's going to change we know what the problem is folks does anybody have a solution
does my coming into the first meeting of I. A. does he want to hear my stupid **** dumpster stories
if you have a little problem identify we get with him after the meeting before the meeting and and identify a little bit but what he needs to hear is the fact that my life is on fire
the thing going
have nothing to do with it already was short but what do people show me what to do and my last been on fire since
I got plenty of money god walking back you're getting copies a quarter not dropping a dollar in what is that about
where did I get that money where do I get all those bicycles where do I get that right why would I get that little rock house
come on god you better believe it eleven years and I have not obsessed about alcohol cocaine where did that come from
in the garden at you're going to be to walk into a meeting I think that I could bore you with some trivial stupid inconvenience that I'm going through today
everybody was let off the hook instead of Saddam downtown to shut the mouth you want grateful son of a **** everybody wants to look what I got to have a place to share I'm gonna say it again come see me after the meeting comes in before the meeting let's go find a therapist let's go find a professional let's go talk to a lawyer about that divorce
got my our recovery time talking about your stuff
I've got one responsibility to help you get on the spiritual path so that you can find a relationship with god that you've always wanted to wake up in the morning to sit down in this garden this morning I cried crocodile tears could you just talk out there you know it's just gorgeous to watch men and women that I watched him in it absolutely broke toast and to watch another ticket but taking names today did I do that **** nobody did that the credit goes to god
when we get back on square one when we start talking about this stuff in our meetings again we'll have success right just like we did back in the olden days we'll have people getting sober and staying sober
relapse prevention I thought I thought my sponsors it or if it's an oxymoron you can't keep yourself sober
you can keep yourself over today maybe and maybe tomorrow but there will come a time if you read the stories in the in the in the book
we'll talk about Jim the car salesman remember that one and Fred the businessmen and talked about that middle blank spot
say this much out here
on page thirty six there's a book there's a there's a story again about Jim the car salesman it talks about this cat
let me give you the full story with this real quick
yeah
many
this is a everyone of you and your man or woman young or old you can identify what they're saying here this is this is first cat we're gonna talk about call Jim this about four paragraphs I don't go to sleep on the stick with me here this man have a charming wife and family he's inherited a lucrative automobile agency he's commendable war record is a good salesman and that's not right we talked about it last night just didn't sound like these guys we just heard everything's going Rosie there life got a lot of future good future ahead he's an intelligent man he did not drink until he was thirty five is a late bloomer in a few years became so violent we had a lock em up on leaving the asylum he said he came into contact with us whats us treatment center
detox unit US eight eight you you can add that to the S. we told this guy what we knew about all of them and the answer we had found
what what's the answer
she a common solution you better believe it we told him what we
not only what we suspected what we thought what we
it doesn't work for us and it will work for you a combined experience of the first hundred
we need your band opinions involved in this thank you
I
a product of good sponsorship
thank you he said
he made a beginning what's that mean immediate burst at prairie meadows started started going to meetings his family was reassembled and began to work as a salesman for the business he had lost their drinking all went well for a time what is safe but he failed to win largest spiritual life
what it's like all over time but he started listening to Metallica again
he started riding Harleys with them damn hippie sons but no I didn't say any of that did it
Jesus died
he started he started thinking about women again no it says is he failed to perfect the largest spiritual life he stopped putting god first through self sacrifice means he did he wouldn't do it any twelve step work through his consternation we balance of drug half dozen times Bannon what aid to case we worked with this guy exactly what we do with you guys relax and come up with what happened can you tell us he agreed he was the real alcoholic now and he's in serious condition he knew he faced another trip to the treatment center if you get one moreover he's gonna lose his family completely if you don't stop now you follow me the first time he was gonna try to get sober he had some **** going on his life but now he's really in trouble yeah right I hear it every day in treatment but this is how may times driven well this is my twentieth time but but not I really mean it this time
what's the first time you want to drink it but the first few minutes the first time the power you thought that you had the power to pull it off and stays over on your own power
somebody got to tell you the truth
yeah he got drunk again top of page thirty six we have just got to tell us exactly what happened here this story is a great story
the biggest minimizes in the world he says I came to you everybody understands I came to work on a Tuesday morning morning I remember I felt irritated that I had to be a salesman for concern I once owned yeah I understand it
I've been working for this place for about two weeks and I think president yet I'm pissed
and we're not remember and they pulled us out of the gutter gave us a job we're not even grateful for that all we're doing is pissing money because we need to rethink the Kenya right that is that is it I hope you were
this is the biggest minimize thing in that in that I had a few words with a boss but nothing serious
you don't have to give you a string of
you don't know you're talking to here
I don't know if the album download Jesus
then I decided to drive out of the country see one of my prospects for car
this always makes sense you guys in sales understand if you want to sell something you go to the least populated part of the world to go find it because the truth the truth is the guy didn't want to give Celsius you want to be left alone is that right you want to grind his teeth and think about that summer visit this they met back at the office right okay
all the way I feel hungry so I stop the roadside place blah blah blah I had no intention of drinking I just thought I'd get a sandwich I also had a notion I'm not by the customer for car in this place
I used to sell I use the European specially products but I was in Houston you know that I always found myself around lunch time in one of those TV bars over there by the airport you don't it's like
a lot of product in those
Louis nuts or what what is this all right here's what is it
ID there many times before but I stayed sober I sit down at a table in order to sandwich and a glass of milk still no thought of drinking ordered another sandwich and decided to have another glass of milk here it is the card is a lot of the book
the way I look suddenly the thought crossed my mind that if I were to put an ounce of whiskey in this milk it couldn't hurt me
I ordered another whiskey ported into the milk a vague sense of what many too smart the
but the researchers always take this with you on a full stomach the experiment went so well that I ordered another and then your genetic Jesus Christ in fifteen minutes he's had three shots of whiskey yeah but what I'm saying because it was the last day it was the first one if you could just take away from the first one would be one of us would be but you see the mental blank spot if the words suddenly is not policy suddenly
I remember my triggers list
suddenly I remember what my sponsorship about it now the dumpster
no quote everyone of you in this place everyone of you in this place can tell me examples when you got you got side wise you got not
when suddenly took place in your life you follow me you had every reason to stay sober you had everything going for you you were on the man and everything was okay just like you thought about this morning I'm just going to have one glass of champagne where does the crazy thinking come from
it comes from the disease of alcoholism folks and that crazy thinking will continue to come back until you recover and once you recover the books as sanity returns and you can come and go as you please
the book says later on in the stories his self knowledge avails us nothing
if self knowledge of veiled us much of anything around drinking and drugging folks why do we have so many licensed chemical dependency counselors coming through treatment at our facility
I'm not knocking those people there the salt of the earth if you can get near one and spend some time with them they're worth every penny they charge you follow me why we have so many doctors and lawyers and psychiatrists coming through treatment
because self knowledge can't fix what's wrong with you god can
ABC's god couldn't would if he were sought
and that's the bottom line
I'm gonna back out of this real quick
try to mend some feelings and I stepped on some of the
I want to go on record now because people have taken stuff I've said for years and scurried around to their way of that I am not talking therapy
therapy is wonderful
I'm not knocking treatment
if you're relaxing and you have any chance to go to treatment it's a wonderful experience please do
but if you think for a second about therapist will get you sober if you think for a second that treatment center will get you sober and keep you sober you are mistaken
I will never back off that that's what the book says god keeps me sober
dot keeps me sober and my only job today is to stay connected to god so what do I do I work the steps with the sponsor who's had a spiritual experience as a result of the steps I continue to have daily meditation and prayer like we were talking about this morning and most of most absolutely on top of everything I place myself so that I can be of service to you I am at your Beck and call twenty four hours a day if you want to talk about the power of god
everything I have today including my life comes from the power guide the only thing that asked me to do is give back a little bit the book says the price has to be paid the problem with so many of us and I A. today is that we're not willing to pay the price we think because we went to treatment spent a bunch of W. money that we paid the price we did not the people that are paying the price for the people down at the halfway house holding those people's hands walking through the steps the people that are paying the price the back of the detox center helping those nurses volunteer help with those people carry the message of hope back into
those facilities
the people that are paying the price or sit on the front row and are a a meetings wait for the newcomer to come in the door to reach out and hold on I'm gonna I'm gonna take exception with something to raise it because he let he let he let some AA batteries that I know off the hook way to easy I said up there North Texas nearly died for eight years wait for you to come up and tell me what the solution is we need to understand quite clearly that the newcomer doesn't understand what to ask I don't know what a big book is
know your your some of your heard me talk about I walked around for two weeks up there and I I a land up there trying to find a big boat I walk in and be dolphins and and and all these bookstores isn't bad either I need a big book
you're not saying you need a big football it's not easy I need a big book I the big book and again the little sales person looks she's a lot nicer girl never forget the look on her face she's well how big a book do you need
she's confused and she's no more confusing me because I don't know what the teller I just know that a bunch you've got these books and I finally went up to the old timer and old timers at buddy's place you're coming here and open the open the door there's two cases the books in and he got he got me a big book I think it was five Bucks and in effect
the newcomer to know what to ask it is not the new comers responsibility Cup your lazy **** this ticket head outside Hey I'm new it's your responsibility to be there for the newcomer
on the books as we tried to to carry this message to alcoholics and addicts still some we tried to cure this message that means that on the front porch and and thought about our own little **** listen folks I know I got some problems you got problems you can sometimes talk about that but in a meeting you need to have your little eyeball appeal for the new cover coming in the door is the guy get the kind of sponsorship that he's supposed to have
you see
bill Wilson road in the archives folks and it is there and Hey comes of age it was added at all great by letters written back in nineteen fifty eight and I'm I'm a I'm a big history of AA and I'm loving this stuff about bill Wilson St is this and I'm gonna close this he says Alcoholics Anonymous is not going to be this is a paraphrase I don't have in front of me I look for it couldn't find it Alcoholics Anonymous is not going to be destroyed from the outside the world loves us you know we're off the street you know we we messing with their daughters no more they love us being here you know this is a not to be destroyed from the outside it's gonna be destroyed from the inside and just like individual people like Marion Mike and James just like we have to take our own inventory and do our own work in the twelve steps a must do the same thing too and when James Bond to flaunt his character he takes it the god tries to change in a a better change we better stop sit on our **** do it the way we're doing it now because it ain't working
no you got in under the door you're doing this well I made it why can't you but let me tell you this if our success rates are so low could it possibly be and this is what bill Wilson's asking us to look at even back as far as nineteen fifty eight could it possibly be that the people today are not getting the kind of sponsorship that we got back we got sober
I travel around a lot folks and I get to see it
are we doing what we're supposed to do in our meetings are we carrying that message of hope our meetings pep rallies
R. and they did a great into a therapy group we try to process your chicken **** feelings
you want to feel better
let me just to put it you want to feel better
you go to the next a meeting
but you're at and you find the most busted up buckaroo in there and you go up to him you give him a Cup of coffee and you sit down with him in the book you help him find a sponsor are you sponsoring better still you start him on the spiritual journey and he watched the light come on in his eyes when he finally realizes that he has some hope that he will ever have to get up and drink again did you ever have to go back into that **** crack house he'll ever ever have to do the things that he's been doing just to get through the day
you sit down with a minute get yourself spend a few moments with this cat and what's the miracle take place what's the circle and triangle come alive to you when you realize that this is about holders and what goes around comes around
I don't know if people in North Texas that finally got me and got me a book I owe them my life somebody said the other day I sort of thought Chris you're too busy you need to slow down you need to quit speaking so much do you mind your own god damn business
I'll take your mice mice of social schedule what is your debt to a a good be paid off my mom asked me that question one time what do you mean
from a man that could not not drink to try to commit suicide dozens of times sit in apartments just like ray was talking about just all busted up living from paycheck to paycheck with no home the depression just chucking the taken care of and a presence that day
I just wanna die
and I had a spiritual experience nothing fancy nothing great just a garden variety by god you better believe life changing experience as a result of somebody cared enough to give me the message of hope not the party on the head just let me sit in the meetings but give me the message of hope I owe them my life
and I'll pay that debt until I die gladly
who loses the whole what you were doing the same thing
everybody comes that facility we monitor after they leave you who stands over the people that are going around rock steady but great the people that are going a whole group of people that are doing the deal people that are sponsoring people right we gotta get out of treatment two months sponsoring people
old timers give him a hard time you have been so long show me the book where it says that the least they're off their data has tried to excite something about the fellowship despite about ego this is about god this is about power
if this tide of alcoholism and drug addiction is going to be changed it is not going to change the treatment centers vote is not going to change the therapist we are throwing money at it were pissing in the wind it will be changed by the power of god
it will be changed by the power one alcoholic
share it with a new alcohol
one drug addict one crack at it share with a new crack at the following
until you walk into a room and sat down what somebody that you had something to do with carrying the message of hope to them and you see how this change
you you ain't lived you don't know what high is it did you see the what the power god can do
you watch people come to the ship that would get that Kevin psychiatric units for years all of a sudden the come clear on the other side and be a powerful uniqueness fellowship after making plenty of money in great relationships how did that all happen
it happened because I got out of themselves for a minute and help somebody else
selfishness and self centeredness is the root of my problem
we've talked about our own **** long enough folks it's time to go help somebody else
god in the pots and pans as well my sponsor taught me guys in the trenches
he's not up on some **** spiritual mountain top he's in the trenches cleaning up puke
taking people to meetings sitting down when you're so damn tired you can't stand up to Saddam so okay start on time page in doing what you're supposed to date which is called carry the message of hope
thank you so much for let me be here
