The Primary Purpose Group's 15th anniversary in Dallas, TX

talking about she she's going to do a shorter one of these things box back here maybe hi everybody my name is Margaret and I'm an alcoholic
this is this is just so cool
you know because this thing work exactly the way you said it was optimized like on January the fifteenth of eighty eight I was kidding with Clifford I think liberty you guys started this group they say they started this with the same month I sobered up because I didn't go here but you know you know it would that would come later but it was so cool to think that they started just for me so it
rejected seven years later I could I could tool in here suicidal and in that case and and get the help that I needed
I want to say before I read the the original deal about how it works
we always talk about being grateful about things but I can tell you guys that I am truly grateful that fifteen years ago there were some men and women who had their
yeah because
just to stand on the firing line and take the heat in the fellowship to to to to have meetings where all we did was study the big book big book you I call it and and and it's just the coolest thing and over the years this group has taken a lot of heat because of that stuff and I'm telling you I cannot tell you how grateful I am if you guys were here and strong and doing it
many years ago now click on the market you're going to be staying here you're gonna have to get in the trenches with us and I did and the cool part about that stuff wasn't I never realized that you guys a bunch of you are already in the trenches doing the deal and I never realized what kind of friendships and what kind of coolness would spring out of that that that deal you wanna you wanna get a fellowship around you that you crave get the trenches with a bunch of guys and go carry a message for out of this big book and see what happens it's the coolest thing in
well this group on Saturday nights we always read the original manuscript of how it works with the other chapter five eight states things a little bit different and it's interesting you can always tell what bill's original intent was when you read this manuscript from this form but it doesn't leave any middle road stuff there's no house we are in it or you're out of it you see there's no gray area so listen this really was in person failed was thoroughly followed our directions those who do not recover people who cannot or will not completely give themselves to this simple program usually men and women who are constitutionally incapable of being honest with themselves and their such unfortunates they are not at fault they seem to have been born that way they are naturally incapable of grasping and developing a way of life which demands rigorous honesty the chances are less than average there are those who suffer from great emotional and mental disorders but many of them do recover if they have the capacity to be honest our stories disclosed in a general way what we used to be like what happened and what we are like now if you've decided you want what we have in a willing to go to any lengths to get it when you're ready to follow directions
if some of these and you may balk you may think you can find an easier softer way we doubt if you can what with all the earnestness at our command we beg of you to be fearless info from the very start of some of you some of us have tried to hold on to our own ideas and the result was nil until we let go absolutely
number that we're dealing with alcohol cunning baffling powerful without help it is too much for you but there is one who has all power that one is god you must find him now
F. measures will avail you nothing you stand at the turning point throw yourself under his protection care with complete abandon no we think you can take it here are the steps we took Twitter suggested that your program a recovery
hello he says that he wants to get admitted we were powerless over alcohol that our lives have become unmanageable to came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity three made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care and direction of god as we understood him or made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves admitted to god to ourselves into another human being the exact nature of our wrongs six were entirely willing to god remove all these defects of character seven possibly on our knees asking to remove our shortcomings holding nothing back man wanted to change that they made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make complete names of them all nine major recommends to such people wherever possible except when to do so would injure them or others and can continue to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted eleven we thought the prayer and meditation to improve our contact with god praying only for knowledge of his will for us the power to carry that out
well having had a spiritual experience as the result of this course of action we tried to carry this message to others especially alcoholics and to practice these principles in all our affairs you may explain what an order I can't go through with it not be discouraged no one among us is been able to maintain anything like perfect adherence to these principles we are not saying the point is that we are willing to grow along spiritual lines the principles we've set down our guides to progress we claim spiritual progress rather than spiritual perfection
no description of the alcoholic the chapter the agnostic interpersonal adventures before and after have been designed to sell you three party ideas they did your alcoholic and cannot manage your own life be that probably no human power can relieve your alcoholism and see that god can and will
if you're convinced on these vital issues if you are not convinced on these vital issues you want to re read this book to this point or else stored away
that
one of the cool things that I get to do interviews quick version and and I'm not gonna roasting and I'm gonna be the nicest guy world tonight
because click bishop is my hero he is and for years now he's been standing taking heat and doing the stuff he was doing it a long time before I got here and I suspect you'll be doing it a long time after I'm gone
you know in those well he'll he'll he'll tell you about the history stuff and we we sometimes take it for granted that we can show up here any to take third in Saturday night and get a bagel does a big book and go out and do what we need to do but when you stop and think how much accountability had to go in to get into this many people to come do this stuff it's an amazing deal and I will truly always be grateful for the fact that I was held accountable and they do the things I did not want to do and it only saved my life thanks for coming with
you know he gets respect me long to get the old you know what
good lord immersive look at theirs would you
well good evening all you fellow jurors one welcome everybody to the celebrating our fifteenth year of the primary purpose branch of the great one of world's largest lost and found department
yeah we used to hear that a lot I don't hear much of it anymore but didn't interest
hi my name is clear vision but I am a real alcoholic
curtains and you can tell
also there is a very grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous
and because of a loving god I found your twelve day it's a loving and lively I went online to search in writing sitting through all of this and
god whether this technology minute or second day she's been able to get out this year and she's here for us tonight and I'm so thankful for the
he wanted to tell me how to follow directions during the steps of the big book and a whole bunch of people exactly like you I am truly enjoying my seven thousand three hundred and second day of sobriety not by god love live in Salem Oregon
little bit of most online I don't know exactly why that
Ellen taught me a great deal especially in a close about the day we're going to make theirs creator of our fellowship is greed of our lives creator of everything good in our lives
and see if we really enjoyed this great Terry did he's given us
hi
or get into this so I look around here now and what a heck of a deal we've got tonight Darren
I want everybody who had any part of setting this thing up in making this possible not stand out so we can get recognized yeah
I don't want to say
thank you so much
you know it's sort of interesting start at if you have already given this program a tested you recognize something if you just turn the lights on the thing and let life happen god lead you down the path to that pretty wonderful
and if I have a lot of money on first of all to it just in twenty years and I'm coming up on next week's
it's not all allow college known as I was in a good bit more because over thirty eight years of my life I can get total credits Alcoholics Anonymous will
time around I didn't know what to do I got a sponsor didn't have a clue what this thing's about they died so I drank and I almost didn't
thirteen years after
I found myself back which are gonna permanent change in the fellowship
back in the sixties when I was here we had speaker meetings and that's about all we hadn't people get up until what they were like what happened what they're lacking day and we have a lot of people dying so
when I got back to America is bigger meetings been off a lot of discussion meetings
and I love him because we got to talking ever blessed one of
but I started noticing something
if you've been around during the time you don't have to tell you all of a sudden that large group is no longer a large group of start planning I'll
but I ran into an article by attacking her biggest reprint of a copier guys speak made by a guy named Bob they can Bob was a delegate from northeast Ohio
in nineteen seventy six he said we're making a tremendous mistake in Alcoholics Anonymous in our meetings
we're no longer focusing on a big look we're no longer stressing the traditions we are not bringing to the newcomer domestic it was brought to us
and I took a look at what was happening and I realized how true that was
this group started in the library of the surrounding house in little rock Arkansas
I had heard a tape of a guy named Joe that lived up there and my daughter was on
a guy from Arkansas and I moved back to little rock an image in December nineteen ninety three to nine making and I told him I want to visit when he met her just take band so we invited me down to the office or device or any house and went down and we sent her a few moments and I joked I mean what you say and what I heard Richard ever going to what he said I don't remember what I heard was quick you don't know what's going about alcoholism can you dance or don't know anything about the programs out college loans
now I have over six years in the fellowship and it hurt my feelings and I started on lake also know you belong to find this guy shut up and listen I said something about being powerless over people places and playing to care for that your problem you need to go P. PH ng
Hey for Alcoholics Anonymous I'm a broke college
certainly open a big American hearing and what we heard tonight to forward to the first injection we got three with me in about I don't know less than half an hour nineteen years after a grounding and I was looking for a way out I understood what alcoholism was in there I was now going to my heart of hearts
Joe internally came to Dallas the next spring and I sat there and looked at these guys Friday night all day Saturday and up to one o'clock on Sunday morning and realized when I sit there and look at these two guys go through the big dirt or something and I had been totally ignored of this whole period of time going back up a little rocky Carroll spends more time joking home and when I want to do it we started to get one groups are going to start thinking of starting out we had some great said what they call big book study committed read a paragraph and then they talk about whatever they wanted to do was another form of discussion making and I wanted something like what I had witnessed at certain
we start having meetings in my home
in elderly along about nineteen eighty seven good Jones early work but on the first seminar held in our part of the country insults in Jones road were open dinner during the make that comes alive it this alone group and I went up and I got released anymore not so it's I mean I heard about the same in our in our sights on George and what what about this seminar and intelligence of archer likes so user will it become a sponsor that foreigners are likely do something I didn't we didn't sit around discussing I just didn't four days of the program employs nonstick twelve steps and twelve traditions of choral concerts
and after a presentation the victim and as I got ready to leave us I don't drink a lot I said man I wished I'd had waited I mean I did it's a shame that I had to come back all the way to Tulsa to find out about this seems to me that's what we'll be doing our meetings and and so that's what we do here
now you're kidding he said now
there was a November the ratings Levin and I said can I come and visit you in January of eighty eight I went up during that big arsenal
and your internet manager there is always our group or Joe missing
Hey I'm Joe McCoy of like almost everybody knows
Joe is a guy who has taken my Joe's points
in both of their jobs very dramatic impact on us being here tonight but we went over there and it always was on the streets and never got a hundred fifty young people there everyone was a big
and they open the big book and I read the big book in Iran study today
the next agent took me over to his greatness abroad a lot of group or gang and most of the kids showed up during the noon hour had their bigger but that not everyone I'm dating again it was a very large grant
I came home with my tail on fire outside their engines dining area while he was working and
adult conversation with god in order to procure Wilder god I would like to see something like that at back home I need now this is a separate from what we want to accept it or not I don't know why you came down from his knowledge that I gained out always gonna save my **** would you gamble
and I do what I do today is like my aunt although I learned if I want to do that I'm going to give everything away and a little bit more
but I came back home and I got with my kids once again coming over the house and some of the others and we sent a letter out
consumer good brands along about January twenty six that Johnson had nineteen ninety eight we had our founders meeting we had about sixty or seventy people
some of them have been around a good long while and what they told me that after that founders meeting
the clever lawyer understudy big that you don't have a prayer
you don't have a chance of this thing being successful I don't know if any how many brands are choosing our big book study but if you haven't come by and check it out
one the largest single meetings in Dallas today
but we started that big they're starting I just been sort of an evolution and has the ball we started reading the big book and we have a tendency to go gripping off on a tangent sometimes and so we got Joe's big security guard
and we use it for a couple years when you stop a chapter seven we like going straight three chapters eight nine ten eleven doctor Bob store in the ground conditions and so we put together our study guide did it become our guiding influence within the group itself I have been overwhelmed
the government was what has happened as a result of his work now all I can take credit for knowing I'm so grateful for is it
I was willing to follow that path to stardom Joe's charged library in little rock
and we're up to this point or not we have been invited to bring the big book in there somewhere between three and four doesn't wind up places in the Dallas community
what are lined up like that's where the hell we wind up
not in a meeting
salvation army souls harbor
former going on
Maggie's house on down lifting one of my real blessings not as young lady came out and gave me her and she's a clip I was at Maggie's when you're doing a big vehicle there nineteen ninety to
what a blessing
and that's kind of why we have been waiting to we have been very very blessed to have some of the most fantastic wonderful willing people to show up and become a part of this group
and as a result of that I've been able to back off and take care of my precious bride and do a little tape back there in and turn this basic responsibility getting off a bus and going on during this message to those of you who have been wanting to come in here and become a part of what we're about we got a speakers become almost an annual band around here and I couldn't be more pleased with it because he's been a big part of our success
and one of the guys that I love dearly I just think the world of course right
the group showed up here a few years ago and it is an old story this one a lot of detail because again the way god works in our lives we just give him a chance the crash out after one night and be on a Thursday night and I for whatever reason I just happen to remember their
back when we are sharing meeting we did take a topic and what was your experience and knowledge on that topic and then I'd have to be to promises I don't know Chris was up here checking us out with a specific goal in mind he had a brother who was looking for a place to go to maintaining sobriety
credentialing is on
read about three weeks later here shows up again the patches going out all holy mackerel if we can get that kind of power may
we go there would be more likely
I found out that Chris had a twin brother just as screwed up as he had been horrified
Informatica years around here Chris out of the Myers was kinda did what he I mean he he was hearing it is yes
well this is a program rigorous honestly we're not gonna cut it up
finally going on a family plan okay dammit all do it and they did it and we have not been able to put out the fire since he learned what those things are down and he's been out there
I don't know how many lives have been touched because Chris and Meyer dentists
and also the study guide we have a chance after tremendously influence on so many people and and has been the source of other groups being created
can possibly happen if Chris signs and markers because I get that down and put a plan together A. on paper
but how do you get a better form well
Myers in the book binding business and so it all became a national
it may sound a little bit you know I don't know what the word I'm looking for
but the truth whatever it is this group is a result of god's reaction in the lines of a bunch of people his will
it to get back to what we are back
have you been around very long you know that Alcoholics Anonymous is an real real deep trouble
we've gone from a very high success rate of seventy five to ninety percent success in people maintaining long term sobriety
less than three percent
and the reason is that we have elected to ignore the one thing that has saved the lives of more alcoholics not going all guns are
the book Alcoholics Anonymous
they also said you know if you re displaying carefully you'll come to understand
unfortunately most of us don't read it very carefully
the Danish group we studied it very carefully and as a result of that we learned what the program is we took the problem to the change in those who have found themselves greatly rewarded is Meyer said he found the fellowship is great
I would may begin to gas and even when I know it would be illegal to damage we ever found but the number of people come to Mars and said will you be my sponsor the ladies have gone to Darren's and will you be my sponsors the people who have term to members of our group who have been around any period of time and say would you be my sponsor Alcoholics Anonymous group is to be a spiritual entity
you know this person limiting the extent of the members of that group wind up adopting this program is available on a spiritual way of life and commit themselves to helping others as long as I can grow spiritually
the crescent man cited regulate a primary influence on our group
the magic carries over here he's been out here is banned Byron brimstone board get off your **** and go do it
but also we believe there was another one here's a chance to send people to us saying if you really want this on here's where you go because you're going to get a strike
I can't tell you what occurs I really can't tell you what I think of this group of people of god said Madeline
the Christian in a very positive influence
in our living dearly and cut them down I'm I'm gonna go ahead and just tell me how wonderful you are
Indonesia go screw it up
no we're deeply indebted to Chris and I'm so thankful he again the group decided as the year committee decided they wanted Chris up here again this year and I want to go out there again this year and I hope you know inviting them back next year you say that are going on about Christmas you can't find a damn going to argue with him about interpret
there's a line of bigger companies libertarians as we have a way in which we can actually agree and join in brotherly and our money section
related articles are saying pages same paragraph missing since
Chris my hero get your vote up here and this gives me one time
it is a lot of people in here
I'm
my name's Chris Webber I'm a recovered alcoholic
can you hear me alright
let's get a little sweaty here for and I can adoption has the I I was just trying to think I don't know how many times I've talked the primary purpose their anniversary remember the first one talk that with a nine year anniversary and I'm and I'm I don't know I may miss a few years in between there but
what it already is to be here and I got death I have family in this room and blood family and I've got a lot of people that I know and love in this room I actually got some heroes in here people I haven't seen in a long time and he's I'm I'm up
I'm a little emotional about Iraq I case become a kind of strange day I yeah I was with my girlfriend all day long Patty yes from New York Yankee and
I just I think
we'll go there but I talked him down I talked in in its last night and we woke up this morning to hear and know the blooms you know the sonic booms and and it's like you know the news in the shuttle stuff in Lester hearts and I I I I I don't know
I personally it's called March as well I guess we have to cancel the night because you know I mean everybody's gonna be tied up with it and now we're still gonna do this and I and I am honored that we did I think that's the way it should be
clipart generic instead Love Me and I he said he forgot to tell him how sorry I was and he laughed you know patted me on the back you know I think I think I need to make it real clear tonight to get some you guys on
I'm so we all heard me speak a thousand times and you are you always keep coming back from that from from the **** Kickin so you've never heard me speak or think you've ever heard me speak for maybe it takes that you heard or CD the club around the countryside and in the end you you hear his voice this this this guy just as angry some **** I you know it's like you know it's like you just as like you know what I'm so passionate about alcohol to nana's talking life not only keep referring back to that because I mean I may repeat myself so we all were in the in in there last night but you know I I if you got a look at this from the perspective that I come from I mean I'm here twenty one years in Alcoholics Anonymous is thinking twenty one years and I've got fifteen years of sobriety five or six years six it leads in and out of this fellowship are dying out there and when I finally got the scholarship in nineteen eighty it didn't get any better because it's just the stories just exactly what cliff was talking about I walked into meetings where they were carrying a message of hope what they were doing was carrying some some some junior therapists idea of what bill Wilson was probably intending to say when I wrote the big book yup yup all I'm saying is you draw that will threaten it's like it's like you know but I'm I'm a little off the whole week you know I mean I'm not alone a little disco doctor I mean I'm I'm the real McCoy and not I don't
I don't sell me on in this room all our disco drunks in that you got here because of them some therapist told you to come here you gotta be happy I'd you came you got comfortable you put the plug in the jug and you stop and you've never worked a single step that you're managing to stay sober I'm not take it you're welcome in this fellowship and I'm gonna take this point what you're not gonna like this talk and I can I feel it I feel it
which is really important for me I'm a try to keep this short and sweet because it's gonna heat up in here but I think it's important because I need to tell you go in the door I love everybody in here I love everybody in here if you're going to a group that carries mill road solution you like a open discussion meeting you take election just talk about whatever is bothering you during the day and you you got sober those meetings and you like those meetings
correct
I just I didn't think that such you know I don't know I
hi everyone I have watched more good alcoholic dinette crap that I can shake a stick at and I do know that the perspective I come from I'm really not getting the fellowship I've seen a lot of people stay sober when I finally got connected to the program each unit see and and and I can tell you that I did clerical work at three considered some of you got cats in here I know through the hospital and I did tell you that I'm a I'm a firm believer in treatment I'm a firm believer in in drying out and get your feet firmly planted on the on the ground but my job is in the hospital is to do some statistical work I called the cat that daily treat me to check and see how they're doing and I love her to be a thousand times status all the chance to leave our hospital and end up coming back into groups like this primary purpose and other groups in the metroplex when I carry the message of hope through the through the big book about Cortana's they stay sober and the cats that don't
don't
yes please treatment centers don't fix you
treatment centers dry you out
without a day reprieve I can't live off the food I had last week I gotta have today my spiritual connection am I going to be in a room full of men and women are going to help me on this personal path well I'm not gonna be a room full of men and women who don't have a clue what this is about
yeah it's it's it's the hardest thing I think for the newcomer to understand maybe some of your family members understand you think we would all be on the same page I'll tell you this right now even in a room like this one of my friends people bid or a primary purpose for years we're not all on the same page because a lot of people do not understand what alcoholism and drug addiction is about I think if you want you want to go into a discussion meeting and sparked some controversy talking to us who are some of the other guys earlier if you want you want to search for the product walk in interview yourself just like Clinton marketed as a recovered alcoholic
but Chris please you don't you don't understand will always be recovering yeah I I want a pizza I go to the hospital where I work
it's one more team to somebody shared their stupid opinions I think I think I close in on this would be great if we just all understand going in the door when you get here you're not allowed to share your opinion
there's a lot of there's a lot of places to share your opinions there's a lot of places to talk about how you think this this fellowship ought to be run you know but you know when you get here gosh it's just unbelievable I don't work out a recovered alcoholic I will take a little bit about my story and I just need to tell you fifteen years ago when I finally met in a room full of people that had big books and I understood what the message was in the care that message of hope to meet two weeks after I got to that room the desire to drink left me and I recovered from alcoholism
you know the books that you read the recovery habit I mean you're still obsessing about alcohol you haven't recovered it doesn't mean that you're bad or worse than anybody else just means you're still sick you still have about the mind of an alcoholic and what you have to do is get well and and that's what the steps are about she does two things that go on there's a fellowship out here and then there's the program you'll download apps and a lot of people coming to this thing this thing we call the fellowship and eat dinner we will get one liners and we do all the little stuff you know little little we get together in discussion with the Dennis the program and that's the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous you're with us and a lot of people have been on the starship for years and I've never been in the program and that's why they're not getting well which is real simple one hundred percent success rate in Alcoholics Anonymous don't understand that nobody that I've ever come across nobody did anybody in this room I bet you a dollar has ever seen it work the steps didn't recover and you continue to work the steps to stay connected with god and you stay recovered
this is absolute crap they were all gonna always gonna be sick
I just
but I'm trying to turn over nicer easier life dot com I'm not into this thing ten minutes and I'm already lead up to this is not
so I apologize going in the door make amends to you right now if you'd like to stay sick it's your privilege stay sick
I'm reading something
bill Wilson and a vision for you he writes about the story when Dr bother him first got together bill Wilson says of doctor Bob he had a desperate desire to stop drinking date but saw no way out for he honestly tried many avenues of escape painfully aware being somehow abnormal the man did not fully realize what it meant to be alcoholic
you with me he he was an alcoholic but he didn't understand what was to be an alcoholic and that's the biggest problem that we have an Alcoholics Anonymous today we've got a bunch of people in our fellowship that still don't understand what it is to be an alcoholic you at U. S. eat up
I lectured my hospital I lecture my heart to the hospital that I work for a lecture the hospital number eighty people in the room and I'll say how many people it is regulated or alcoholics or addicts and and eighty people won't raise your hand yeah now listen he did a bunch of wires in this room
you see because because if you really understood and you really know what it means to be an alcoholic you would never relapse again because you have the desperation of a drowning man to get well you understand it's not that they don't know the solution they know what the solution is is the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous it's a call to notice the fellowship but they're not gonna do that they're not gonna seek dissolution how many people we send back click basically Myers you know there are we doing the numbers I called the company a lot of people in this room or or have been in the hospital and you all hooked up and stayed hello yeah but I'm gonna tell you everyone of you in here there's a hundred more they came back the metroplex chain one common left inside the bridge over there too rigid
let me tell you I love a friend of mine named Jerry he we bury him on Thursday in San Antonio hi he drank up one level and drank up another and he was a cool guy he was a licensed chemical dependency counselor and probably was responsible for I don't know hundreds and hundreds of people come to treatment getting well you have to give it a good man for the last eight years of his life were spent using alcohol and drugs he could not understand he could not get a clear idea a little heads what he had to do because his case was so different
L. A. pay some folks here you can't finish remember sat down to watch somebody die an alcoholic death that's rigid
what the steps ask us to do like kids in a baby but compared to what I'll call ask us to do the compromises the alcohol caused us to make
and what we supposed to be
unbelievable
I thank god for the big book and I'll get out of here so that you don't hear me read all night long but this is my new favorite paragraph I read all the time
jadi that drive a little favor to go digital
this is whether such a person can quit upon a non spiritual basis depends upon the extent to which he has already lost the power to choose whether he's going to drink or not
US
many of us felt we had plenty of character there was a tremendous urge to cease for ever yet we found it impossible this is a baffling feature alcoholism as we know it is under inability to leave it alone no matter how great the necessity of the wish to approach that alcoholism that alcoholism and I'm gonna tell you something that a lot of people out there in the real world out there that have this unbelievable idea if for some strange reason alcohol into the behavioral problems
you don't don't don't tell that to Jerry if you can give me back out of a casket in asking Hey buddy or you just misbehaving are you know
did you drink up to labour's because you were mistreated the child I mean whatever it is I mean is that really
or do you perhaps have a genetic predisposition to do this this problem you come are you genetically wired in such a way that you can't choose whether you're going to do it or not
but you see so many people out there I think this is part of the one key piece that we miss an arc in our in our fellowships today in our meetings in our treatment centers in our hospitals because we will make sure that the alcoholic understand if you could choose to drink you're not an alcoholic if you could choose not to drink then choose not to drink
and I would just assume you believe this fellowship so you'll cost opulence everybody else around
you people some of them holding all the time to say is is is is is is that I got up this morning by the grace of god not chose not to drink with
no kidding
get out of here no no close you've you've actually got up this morning and and and and
brush your teeth and comb your hair to consolidate all the stuff that you and and and made a choice today I'm not gonna drink
but you know I'm gonna tell you something god it's a great time in the last fifteen years and most of that I want to be sober but I tell you there were some of the data there I didn't want to live
yeah I understand that you want I want a drink I didn't want to live in about how to make a choice where I'm gonna pick up but balor not
god loves me way too much for that and that's what the whole crux of alcoholism is about and that was what this book was about what clip was talking about that's what March is talking about our whole point of this fellowship is for us to get together
do a few things that are uncomfortable and we don't want to do but we do it anyway and we have a thing called a spiritual experience as a result and a lot of changes forever and the desire to drink leaves were placed in a position to neutrality
Scott but is there any better news it would you tell a newcomer than that changes at all I wanna do here when I got this fellowship that's all I wanted to hear
nineteen eighty as a result of a mill domestic disturbance with my first wife I ended up in a in a Kmart a nice counter secrets but he wouldn't do some therapy with you but what you're really gonna need to do is go to our hearts and honestly you would drop you got some tough times with alcohol business and it makes it easier to do an a a meeting in Denton Texas and I went to a a meetings we were laughing about it last night a lot of it is dark stairs walking up with these not just walk up the doctors not walked into the one little balls on a lamp back into effect and I was up there the easy chair an old crusty summit level sedated or anything
this creek up the hill stairs you know I'm saying god of darkness no one and I walked in there was about my height
it's like being in my phrase in Houston you know you walk into a center for a few minutes here I will get adjusted like what the hell I walked into was it a seance of what
Milwaukee into six other people in the room with this guy and they're all you know like this and there they are booking a place in the village just like this and they said sit down I
do I have to you know it's like and I set out and I like that we start to go around the room this little guy talked about twenty minutes about some I didn't have a clue what was about and this latest let's listen I am a problem she was an al anon or husband was drinking and she want to talk about the disease and she want to talk about what and it's got started shares of opinion that we know basically not just I'm freaking out you know I'm very you know I like I split big after the meeting random set my pick up truck finished the other half of the six back that I had before I went to the meeting
not
boy that was a that was that was an experience I just had a pair NetMeeting
six but you see I don't drink anymore and I didn't want to do anything else and I didn't want to get in trouble and so I went back to Alcoholics Anonymous and I spent the next seven years
why another data the Oxnard bailed me up at night a a I talked to three businesses lost health compromised
what's that white
on on on instead of getting out of apple's anonymous listen to that crap this guy's his recovery at you like what kind of means I Polish I make mine and now we're here in
you're right click we got off the page we got up to take somewhere along the line we got off the page and all we ended up doing was
help in the hard drinkers and alcoholics the people like me
die by the thousands success right now because none of us went to the toilet how can you take the statistics in nineteen forty
worst case scenario sixty five percent getting sober
best case nearly a hundred percent around Akron
I'm taking the day to the statistic that could basically talking about
I got a I got a lot of almost it up this far from a pissing contest with Clancy last weekend to we can go down a potter county sheriff's department I'm sure he can upset by his crisp we appreciate your your sharing the good here but you know your statistics are wrong you don't want to take exception with it everybody wants to look the other way pretend everything's great and Alcoholics Anonymous
if you happen to be coming to meetings like this everything's great in Alcoholics Anonymous if you haven't been going to some other groups in towns where they let you off the hook they will hold you accountable things are not so great you're dropping like flies up there
where the old timers
four three have you ever watched I never watch okay honey Easter eggs yeah you know what I mean it's like it's like you got a bunch of little kids and you go on a hobby the spread you know what it's like to make some hard you make some you just check them out online that is that is that is out there you know who you want to give a little kid something that comes up in the box and they're out there run around looking as well hello there looking up there down here the right here you're stepping on them you know
that's exactly what the solutions about everybody that works to step
it's going to have an experience with god and the obsession to use is going to lead but we can't we can't get you to work the steps and over you won't work especially if you don't understand what alcoholism really it
a physical allergy coupled with the middle of the session the insanity that the book was just talking about this believe it you can stay sober on a non spiritual basis you know what I'm gonna do I'm gonna change my life and everything's going to be good everything's gonna be great I'm a given that stupid woman Alex moved to another town and turn over a new leaf and man what's going to be great yeah how many times we done this guy how many cats are here in this in this room right now you alcoholic I mean he got drunk we have tons of money we do it every time I went I I get to visit with you guys how many we had no money
I did learn a lot of it how many when you live in a great big town that's yeah apple crop will die like Ingram where I live
may house
burned out trailer
here's the kicker with somebody that you really love it without being fine person with with with some beef with one of
guilty this week I'm gonna get to do a deal and I get to do a little group with a bunch of therapists upturn in Karbala it's a it's a it's a it's a big deal nice gathering of people up there a lot of professional gonna be there and I'm gonna ask him that you know because it seems like when we go to the veterans with all these professional that's always seem to want to talk about how can you organize alive over here so you don't have to drink over here it just doesn't work that way folks
and I'm gonna tell you something I'm organizing school cannot change my life in a heartbeat S. Meyer should ever come across as mark can you help me move she's not again
he might get bring some of the girl that was who is this I mean it is a different change girls change houses changed course change jobs change change change change change what what are running from one of my friends this internal condition the third piece of art in these instant spiritual malady the internal conflict is the most terrible terrible place to be on earth day in day out night in night out
this internal discomfort stays with me and that alcoholism
and you know you'll die from it when you're drinking or when you're sober
what do you got in you know exactly what I'm talking about you put the alcohol and drug away from Chris Rayner I don't I get worse not better he'll get down with that study night Alan Arkin as you've seen is when we're dry not sober we're dry you know I mean you did which will drive you nuts will wear you out because nothing's good enough you got to do something to make me happy unbelievable unbelievable
the internal condition is what we would get you and and and we know how to treat it but nobody wants to do it
I'll go ahead just take that right now nobody wants to talk about the guy I think we can't charge for
what was the truth
and I'll tell you another reason because it takes courage to talk about god it takes courage to stand for
why I don't know
it takes courage to stand for the power stand for something we're also speaking to the concerned some stupidly concerned about how we look all you want to put anybody off you don't offend anybody
great
so far there because some of you guys in this room don't have a problem going into a meeting and and and cleaning house and taking next to I think we ought to be an entertaining speaking fights with people absolutely not do I think we need to stand for the clear message of hope it was given to a sixty seven years ago absolutely absolutely only game in town it's with what if you only need to fall back on we did discuss that used in the twenty two hundred twenty two hundred discussion meetings a week in Houston Texas
fifty five big meetings fourteen twelve twelve made
now what the hell is this about twenty two hundred meetings a week and only only fifty five of them a big meeting
I think if you wanna talk about god and the power and learn how to have a spiritual experience you got fifty five places to go and talk about it
but you wanna talk about that stupid pathetic lack of yours one more time
I gotta tell you can we cannot be in Canada he was later I'll be in I'll be in New York talk and if I didn't make did Mike Jack Ross speaks when I start talking about this you can see the faces of the goods of grinding well he had me there for a while I thought it was pretty good so we started talking about that one of the meetings up I mean that's what's for celebrities who share our problems that's where we're off the page
I hope the numbers was never intended to be a dumping ground for your problems and you're describing you you're calling it sherry I call it dumping
I wanna tell you something you'll be halted in the room he's been drinking eternity what some hope you know what he calls it boring
you know it seems like it's like all of us have problems a friend of mine from from the Houston owns that someday he sent me some day any service you know and I wear my what I'm gonna wear the dentures you know it looks good I think that's the place we need to go and talk about this stuff let's go far
we don't talk about it on tape before we all get together that's what we did and when I got sober nineteen eighty seven those are the times got around me and I said but we talk about her anymore we talk about the car insurance when I talk about the job we're not talking about Jack we're going to talk about is gotten steps
you're not connected to god yup we're gonna step you guess what you got nothing to say
what happened in the nineteen eighty seven I was working for Myers thank god that he hired me I couldn't cook anymore my my my hand ships that are out of the process for years and I wasn't you know little hearing the nab don't you know we're not
depressions killing me and I'm off I'm off the page and I'm not a happy camper now I got some big name of the person by the handfuls of try to stay young you know functioning and it's just it's just not working and I go home one night and they decide to off myself the tribunal will selfish people on earth is the only solution I could find you know what thank you it's not that I want to die if you I just didn't want to feel the way I was feeling anymore you know I did alcoholism is a progressive and you know there's a date when alcohol working I mean it's like it's like alcohol is good guys we drink to the effect I'm down with that but after puritanical stops working to stop treatment internal conditions and I'm drinking in the depth of the depression didn't leave it stayed with me now and I'm not happy joyous and free anymore the ship was still working I still be drug use and we do it you know but it stopped and now I'm in trouble and it's the you know what I want to go to work and I'm not doing good at work and I want to be happy I'm not happy and I just I just it was the scene like that but the thing to do just like so many of us I just want to die I will tell you something right now guys
there's some of you in this room right now that are in that spot and and I'm here to tell you I want you to I want you to listen what I'm saying
stand what you're going through and a bunch of people in this room I understand and that's why we take the thing so series we laugh a lot but but but there's a way out
it's call got a great
my job is to get connected to that power how can I do that that's what we were talking about pick seventeen it's a common solution
some of you guys been through the ringer
high time you got connected to some power
I boarded that suicide attempt at night I'll never forget that not as long as I live I don't talk about it much I hit real superficially superficially on tape side headed superficially groups when I'm talking I I just it's just it was just a scary damn night you know it's just a scary night out it was no different than any other not accept the depression was killing me and I just haven't done a twin brother that I loved in a family and it was just
I board the teams I made myself sick after the pill that I believe I heard god say don't do it go back to a don't know what I heard I heard go back to AA the next day I went back I had a guy that did a twelve step called me one night after a blackout he picked me up over here in grapevine and called me a little looser grouping to Chris you want to go and I said no I don't
I'm not dressed right and
number the truth is I don't want to go in there because it was to make people laugh and have a good time and I but I went back to his me I knew where it was a never been there before and I went back I just met a girl from that group and I did not bless I'm glad it's still there or not I yeah I when the back door that night and there's a room full of people about forty people in there they're all smoking cigarettes and laugh and they're all carrying big books just like click was talking about they're all talking about gotten steps your problem saying we won't be in the Alaskan lakes senior associate for years and several people knew me and they just like Chris here's what we're gonna do tonight would anybody like to share some hope with this guy we might like to share what god has done for you
with me now I don't think I'm making this up because you know every first at me I went to the first thing they did was start with a stupid **** more stories they didn't do that to me tonight there's a lot of the book and in bill story talks about VAT doing protocol in Billings has never mind the must be passed here said I'm still a man I know really if god
here's a man shouting great tidings and that's exactly what these people did to me they didn't sit around telling stupid war story got I don't know why we do that in our a a meetings there's one place you're stupid war story and it's a twelve step call once the cat comes in the door we got in
yeah with us
speaking for getting it done I mean why you why you want to do the cooking you know it's a lot
I know what you're doing my job is to share my experience with that whole
I didn't mention this to you I'm Lou some of you here Gimme Gimme Gimme a Li Li right here experience we can hope that line comes in the practices with me and that purpose was at the second edition I don't know who wrote it but bill Wilson didn't ride it you with us the original purpose of the first page of the first edition I didn't say anything about sharing your experience stricken hope
big but everybody wants to rub on it that's my one job but my one doesn't know the conditions clearly state what your one job is just carried a message of hope to the newcomer your job is to carry the message of hope to the newcomer in that right our primary purpose of the craving for groups cliff
it would be after the meeting will work on something you're looking for something in unbelievable that's our primary purpose built to carry the message to the oncology still suffers he didn't say anything about your concert experience strength and hope
what do you think I know what I'm speaking about what area I'm talking in the margin I do workshops together we talk about this and get this I got a standing ovation Corp lost people well if it if it drives everybody crazy why are we allowing it to happen who the hell group candidates fellowship this is our fellowship
why don't we take it back when we change the format of our groups do not allow that
there's a place for your war stories both in a twelve step call
you get the call he didn't do anything even the backbone he's drunk you need to get it you need to get attention you need to get accomplished share some stories with them so that they can understand where you're coming from you with this then bring to a meeting and now we got in share the hope share the hope
don't hear another stupid war story we didn't hear
we tried a new steering in the study and
you can't scare an alcoholic its walls
what I don't understand going back to the the whining Kissimmee mountain stuff here's what I don't understand if our primary purpose is we have a C. R. singleness of purpose not traditions tell us that we have one job here yep yeah call it get well you policy we'll have any problem at all it was a drug addict in one of our meetings to shut him down now listen I'm down with singleness of purpose I got a comes in certainly all the dopey shops we shutting down told to be quiet we're not here to talk about your build date date
but you can come and talk about your stupid freakin divorced until tiles come home
how is that different brands how is that different
it's an outside issue it's got nothing to do with what you're staying sober or not it has nothing to do with hello Bruce it's got nothing to do with god so are we talking about
there wasn't a letter in nineteen nineteen
what's the date on here sixty six well great little article it's an Advil secretive except for this it has an a a group as such cannot take all the personal problems of its members let alone the non alcoholics in the world around us this was a tradition came from this is what sobriety freedom from alcohol to the teaching and practice based will step to the sole purpose of the group
why are we drinking
if you're drinking because of those problems are not one of us
I'm not making a lot of the problems that you need you need to talk about that once you do this once you see one of us after the meeting that you're coming apart at the seams we'll go to Denny's and talk about it if we don't have the expertise to be able to find you somebody topics we'll find you a great counselor a therapist somebody trying to help you talk about it
because that's our job
the absolute
absolute absolute arrogance arrogance of us to think that we can fix everybody
and every problem
my bloody workshops all around talk about sponsorship stuff you know one of the number one reason that we don't sponsor people that the newcomers afraid to go sponsored because they're afraid they're going to hurt somebody
therefore they don't have a right answer
newcomer supposed to share hope with the next newcomer he just can we do that the new cover supposed to share the information out of this book can we do that other than that there's nothing else for us to do
we are not terrorists Hey Eddie is not syrupy
this is not a self help program
if you're using it as that
leave
go away
March just read how it works the eighty feet what it's likely that no human power could fix what's wrong with me
at that right
I gotta do get connected to god I think that something like that something
she's
why that's a controversial whether it makes somebody feel uncomfortable because we're gonna leave these rooms are guaranteed some you guys go to primary purpose and some you guys going to be that a great you're gonna go right back into the first thing you're gonna listen to a live look at the look on your face already
he just didn't have the luck tells what we consider to meetings screw you
I didn't have time to pick up our valuable recovery time you'll have time to take our valuable recovery time
talk about your
most selfish people on earth can you believe this god we can give an absolute gift of sobriety the absolute number one guaranteed path to god
I'm gonna let you come here talk about your craft
I'm not I'm not having a
I'm not having a very good day
okay
next
disguised we will have a problem getting these cats alcohols anonymous we don't have any problem getting people to Alcoholics Anonymous they don't have any problem didn't have to cook and I was in a call to arms you know what we have a problem doing we have a huge problem getting people to stay once we get through this fellowship
correct I can't stand it
they cannot stand listen to the one they cannot stand listening to this stupid war stories the two things that we are not supposed to do in our meetings
where is the hope
where is the hope
T. as in nineteen eighty seven when I walk back in that room little program told me sent me on a chair to sit out but you're not going no where to go on the calendar for getting them as any she said attitude it adds to I will but can she can hold her cut off on I mean I was busted up she set out to clean up my act spill coffee and
a little handle money the whole time just to stay right here stay right here and right up to the minute was the old timers got together article timers he was a girl it was the girl was sitting there holding model hand which was a year older than I did about nine months of sobriety the guy's gonna be my sponsors had a little less than a year at about eleven months of riding in a couple of guys in there with it with a couple of years and they came up ravenous to Chris we're talking about the big book real quick you got a minute I started talking to me about they asked me point blank do you want to stay sober the rest your life
you heard me a thousand times as I may be wrong the ultimate mistake that will trigger the time I said well you know one day at a time
nope that's it but we're not interested you're ready to get sober or you're not we don't have time to mess with you what they did they qualified me that not they ask me about alcoholism they asked me if I was really need to be here they were checking to see if I need to be a sister fellowship or not they were checking to see if I needed to be in a room about false alarms
I did hello the next day they came and got me
let me back over the meeting with your third step prior to getting some information before step and I started my journey two weeks later I had a spiritual experience and my life changed forever
two weeks two weeks during those two weeks real quick I'll let you guys go two weeks I'm sitting there in that meeting and the person they had me do I'll never forget I came in on a Friday yeah with me that if there's a prosperity and then starting at six o'clock I suppose of course we can identify owns has it you need to get somebody else to answer your stupid phone as I sit in this room detox and I don't have time to mess with it it's what's his phone business little papal against the wall so we all remember in Lewisburg there's a take on what counts in the nation and it was a meeting scheduled on the wall next to Chris if the phone rings answer it can help somebody get a meeting schedule that's all we're asking you to do what I can go and save any lives are really run into the burning buildings or anything we're just asking you to answer the stupid phone
I'll never forget I'm just pissed because I'm embarrassed I don't know I don't know what it wants in the transporter argued leading it also in writing that all should
what do I do answer it
I think
the house
they look into the like near naked like what cleaning house loose will group I think of the pump
it was over
just how much you want out of a meeting I think there's there's a means get about their short without limiting it tell what time it is a seven thirty
little seven thirty talk to lay and turned up I know the lady C. R. bard his next door neighbor if this lady that he this cat American even drinking forever anyway anyway I know this place is high I know you must
not do anything that I'll meet you out front you just look for me cheap cheap record of the patches you look for me and also I'll fly you down you come in while you had me at that and I did that and I will tell you to miss out on that phone though there's a little bit different in my demeanor you know anybody else from that time on a bill here that phone I mean for months upon at a private job away from young
I was wondering if somebody's are going but I don't know I
you could you could you could kill somebody answer the phone wrong but elements
all of a sudden guy because all of a sudden wondered what's the difference I'm not talking about your fellowship anymore it's not about my fellowship in America your group anymore talk about my career because quite personal when you start participating
have you guys you've been around for years and are you still large participants you're just you're out there on the on the side of it just watching come on Dick Clark's
it is some going weird in your group change
it's your responsibility don't wait for the old timer to do it they're busy doing some other things the big
I'll tell you what else might be happening maybe it's just me plum wore out the side in the battle themselves maybe it's time for some of what little nutrients to get in the trenches with the rest of these cats start taking some responsibility
yeah
original story this little book called how it works but Clark's matter then and we're not pitching class here but you know he was a big twelve separate big big idea
basically this little thing coming up her we talk about this for the traditional skinny guys and got an orgy Mr arches agreements were real story minutes of real real cash he did hold a napkin doctor Bob's house he's been there for about six months they they just been sitting on this guy you know for the eagles he got little phobias he's scared of his own shadow he's just scared to death and he comes out he can go back to the room that's what the book says racks and doctor and doctor monomer sicken tired of having a chat hang around you know this is like may go hang someplace else you know actually sending back with clearance back to Akron to Cleveland on clearance is gonna use images this is to see if I can find it'll be a
are you look at me like he was a lucky was hit with a club and classical nobody ever asked her to do anything I suspect some of you guys in here
are you with us they end up getting back to town parts locally got the backseat with and then sail into the long rides
the side released and sent back to the driver seat he relax and go back to Cleveland and it was often back okay listen the next day
Arsene somewhat different all he did was get office asking me and drive back to Cleveland with a bunch of big books on first day the very next day art seems somewhat different maybe it was the theory class with forces suffered a long ride with Aetna or maybe it was something even more profound ours got so busy with a in Cleveland that he appeared to change right before turns his eyes large with the hospital to dry out places help with drugs all over the place he got so busy and so far it over his head he forgot all about his fears and phobias surprisingly he became a big asset currency became one of the boys he eventually went back to Akron in the man's within a few months he returned and we are closed points and started first aid meeting in Detroit big Bucks seventy Bucks for six months and didn't do anything and that's what happens to us in the fellowship we're so afraid of offending the alcoholic much I'm going to get up and come help us right trying to be politically correct try to be easy does it take it easy take everything out of context you see that we will ask the alcohol to do the one thing that's going to save his life
program of action folks action is not a program of sync is a program of action we act our way into wellness
Jeez how can how can we get you guys to do it how could get people to do it
two weeks after I walked in that fellowship and buy out because none of us in Lewisville Texas I I got out of my truck one night up in North Texas and I pull the tail gate down my truck in that set in a parking lot out there one twenty one and I cried like a baby and I looked around the neighbors liquor stores all around me in seven eleven stop and go in and maximize outside issue dealer lives in the apartment complex where I live
and it's probably not I got a pocket full of money and I'm sitting on the tailgate crying because not that I'm miserable because I don't want to use
the desire to drink and then lifted from me next call recovery and it's called god's grace no date and that's where everybody in this room can be and that's where every alcoholic out there on the street right now everybody in the big ten houses or in a little burned out traders in south county where the hell they are that's where they can be
if I do the work
everybody's different Chris everybody's gonna have a different experience that's a crock
that's a crock
you say one more thing in Malaysia please
for the therapist in town that I locked horns with a couple weeks ago when I heard that we've been sending patients back to primary purpose and primary purpose we're getting word back from the patients with basically the council's tell them not to go to primary purpose within a primary purpose they come here they go see that their presence there for the taking don't go to that group little different very
they're too rigid over there
I thought I called the old one and on
because you see that's it's called mixed messages to the alcoholic or totally up how to get their life depends on working with others
and they can be sent to a group where where they tell him to go work with others and now the therapist is going to go to groups where they ask you not to work with others you agree to be here for the first year
you can't share you can't bother to use over two years you'll hear that crap that's exactly what it is what happened arch whatever the bill Wilson whatever the doctor Bob what happened the first one hundred they didn't like to your start working with others Jesus died we're dealing with worse that's the most fatal illness and again the World Bank alcoholism drug addiction kills more people than cancer rates combined that's a real statistic
and are you gonna get well the number one where you get well if you have yourself I will work with somebody else we're gonna have the absolute absolute arrogance to tell newcomers that they don't have anything to share with with with with with the right one
you have you have the right to sit on your **** one we don't have time dice is desperate after folks he's desperate and we need your help
she's unbelievable after therapist I suppose but what he does different paths to god this people wait to do this
you know what
it's a protest come to our hospital our last gasp push your chronic relapse they need something with some pretty serious medicine it as you know I mean we we we're we're dying from middle road solution
they're asking the kicker well you know you have to be pretty critical little group you know you're you're coming down the hill a junior boys are coming down pretty hard on this group let me ask you point blank chances are did you ever go there isn't a big book study listen to him talk about god the steps and see how they they work remains well no I have never been over there but I you know I'm not all great
just like a lot of people in this fellowship you're talking about something that you got absolutely no experience with
what is the truth
come on guys
how do you know it won't work
you go to one of the one that joins you sit across from somebody it's hopeless
this got ten thousand legal problems backing up over their head and a wife is packing in sick kids home and no money interested in literature here compromise health problems this statement is reminiscent of things like what the hell am I gonna do I look at what is that going to work I've been to treatment before this I go to work do you sit in a room with somebody like that he walked up to him share that hope with them and what's the life changing their eyes want to turn the question turned the corner what's in store for seconds come on just recently not believing what you're saying and in turn the corner and start realizing the dot didn't work for you maybe it'll work for me and you watch a little hope come across her face
I used to see if you wanna go direct
there's nothing like it in the world
one alcoholic one alcoholic working with another alcoholic and I've seen it a thousand
hi
Alex somebody else do it
no you don't understand do you think it was coincidence that marketing to this group
do you think it was coincidence that I ended up in in in in hot Texas do you think it's going to take a quick look here that any of you guys in this room we showed up tonight you think it's a coincidence
you sit in the meeting and you watch that door and you wait for the newcomer to come in and you make sure that that new coverage yours
don't talk about some you don't know anything about you're not doing twelve step work you're not sponsored anybody stop Sydney means instruct your children say this didn't work
you go do what the coaches ask you to do please please
we sure need you
six six now at past litigation in the court of appeals now if law in one state already that we can't talk about god in our state funded facilities
reconsider their state funded federal funded monies if the policies are not gonna be able to talk about god
with me which means what
which means what right you can look it up on any website do you have any either that or the information is out there for anybody who wants to read it
the most recent ones when we were talking about last year the state court of appeals in New York are coming down the pike in this business
federal government in trouble because they're sending probationers towards our rooms and it's a religious order quote on quote to them and because we talk about god they're not gonna spend and not and not going to find these facilities so here's what happened they're gonna start shutting the facility down good guys we can't talk about god we can't talk about synonymous what the hell we're gonna get these patients
it is a private funded facility you're not a problem at the state funded facilities where they get the real damn drunk a lot of times you're not gonna be able to talk about this business now for these guys to come to
absolutely we're gonna have to do our jobs we're going to have to get back in the trenches we were supposed to be all along we're gonna have to stop looking at the tree considers to fix what's wrong we're gonna have to start talking about god missteps
the best scares the daylights out of a bunch of your budget you don't even kind of want to go there
you're going to actually have to get up off your **** and start talking about your pathetic little life and actually do the work
that's a scary thing in it but I'm gonna tell you guys I'm gonna tell you to shut up get out that's absolute greatest
as a greatest hits like you give anybody in this room is a privilege and a chance to participate somebody else's recovery you think you have anything to share let me tell you something buddy what new cover comes in you grab another election where the bathroom is the mock up coffee talk to you about god instead telling about how your life has changed you
it takes my breath away to watch and see what happens
this what it was and said
back in two Advil see that little booklet it says Hey in two words of course that this to me years ago all I A. progress can be reckoned in terms of just two words humility and responsibility our whole spiritual development can be accurately measured by the green over here is to these magnificent standards is by them that we will be enabled to find and to do god's will
humility
how we understand what your job is in a your job today is not to bring the problems your job is to bring the solution you invest and responsibility if you got a meeting that's going south turn it around
you got somebody in a meeting this pontificating and talking too long like I am now shut
show him up if you got meetings where people are using the dumping ground change the format to please returns to literature based meetings so that we can start here is a selection of our fellowship we need every single one of you everyone of you in our fellowships your windows

if you
heard state bar doctors bills come in by it'll be great it'll be right
our book is meant to be suggested this suggested only we realize we only know only know only a little god will constantly disclose more to you and to us
welcome to your morning meditation what you can do today for the man who is still sick the answers will come if your own houses in order well you obviously cannot transmit something you haven't got see to it that your relationship with him is right and great events will come to pass for you and for countless others this is a Greg back for us
abandon yourself to god as you understand god admit your faults to HIM and your fellows clear away the wreckage of your past give freely of what you find and join us we shall be with you in the fellowship of the spirit you will surely need some of us as you trudge the road of happy destiny may god bless you and keep you until then big book the textbook page one sixty four
if you like to become a member of our group we think one of the white envelope from the basket when it comes around if you're already a member and you have a change in your phone number address or sobriety date righted take the white card update your information which are returned the card to me
R. seven tradition states that each group ought to be self supporting through their own contributions if this is your first meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous or if you're visiting we ask that you be our guest we're glad you came and hope you'll come back to become a part of our lives
and while we're passing the basket we usually have a little song and dance but I I want to read something
from a couple told members of this group a little correspondence I took place couple months ago
says
if one out of ten people are alcoholics how many people do we come to come into contact with throughout our days Jan twenty or more
be sure that our big book says that we're to be of maximum service to god and the people about us
who are those people about it
we're instructed to ask doctor doctors ministers etcetera about where we can locate those who are still suffering so why can't we ask other people with other professions
everyone in this world knows somebody that has a problem with either alcohol or drugs why are we trying to get more services in our daily lives
would it be wrong to strike up a simple conversation with the lady behind you in the loop in the grocery line
how do you know that she hasn't been crying and pouring your heart out to god's brings to bring someone into our lives I can help help her son or daughter
how do you know unless you ask and let you take the action we don't if we don't I personally feel that we're only being of service between certain hours of our day what about the other time that we have been blessed with why not take full advantage of each and every opportunity that we are given
can we step up and step out just a little bit more who knows what kind of miracles will take place in our lives we just reach out
not just in the treatment facilities in jails but to the quiet lady standing behind you
and the reply is this
there is a world of misunderstanding and ignorance out there and our mission is to have our head in the clouds our feet firmly planted on this earth as that to our fellow travelers are
the doctor Baden Clarence and bill and now we're we're live what actions would they take what they sit back and wait for the alcoholics to come to them
not a chance
would they show up at a meeting or two in hopes of finding a prospect
if they're not too bad all
the middle of the road is alive and flourishing and it breaks my heart some toes will be stepped on to bring the solution to those who seek it but bring it we will what better way to thank god for giving giving me another chance thank you what better way to thank god for giving me another chance the my getting off my rear and caring the solution to someone who's dying just like I was Dr Bob worked with over five thousand people before he died do you think that the concept of work with another alcoholic being vital to permanent recovery was a big player in that it was
think of the healing in our own lies in the joy and hope that is brought to our families friends it's better as a result of relying on god and practicing these principles
what is the following excerpt from bill's story held true today all of us spend much of our spare time more repeat that all of us spend much of our spare time doing this sort of thing
a few of us are fortunate to be so situated that we can get nearly all of their time to work through the work
if we keep on the way we are going there's little doubt that much good will result but the surface of the problem would hardly be scratched those of us who live in large cities are overcome by the recent by the reflection get close by hundreds are dropping into oblivion everyday many could recover if they have the opportunity we have enjoyed how then shall we present that which has been so freely given us the textbook page nineteen
it ends like this
a paraphrase from the textbook page one twenty nine I plan on going to the mine today
armed with my picture in god in my heart
my pick will strike gold today
and I'm gonna give the entire thing away
