you don't have to stand back here is like
it is at the C. W. dot com I shouldn't be standing right now is for
I was personally okay okay that'd
thank you well it's my distinct honor I guess you could say to it was a good friend of mine
he asked me for the ten dollar introductions so is is gonna be real short and sweet
I've known for a little while now gonna norm rolled a lot better over the last year and it's just a
a little bit overwhelming for me to be standing right here and with all this going on it's just a a really neat deal
so when you do and have Chrissy come on up here
what about
okay can you hear me all right
my name's Chris Reimer I'm a drug addict alcoholic
I need to take a month I am a shy sensitive alcoholic in a in a drug again as my brother is also not this is going to be kind of interesting I'm gonna I'm gonna give me a second got your mom bearings and of I love children
and I'm I'm conscious that some kids in there so I'm gonna really try to keep the cousin to a minimum sum of y'all have heard me speak before will know that that's going to be an impossibility so I suggest you stay real close to their little precious Sears because
you know
but I'm gonna try okay
how cool this is I think
I don't have this I guess is about the third time I've got to speak over here on this this is one of my all time favorite places that we get up and I saw a little cross section here we really they got died in the world I mean big Bucks not been fools the come to this group you know art are you got the middle roaders are gonna hang out in there they're going to they're not going to like this talk and that they're not gonna like me and I like my brother I can promise you might assume you guys are detox and still I know some of you know some of your little on the shaky side at my brother my brother and I are identical twins and
he
he
but he is on it we do this good C. bad seed everyone's while this is the second or third time we got a chance to do this it's pretty fun that when you actually hear him I mean he's just like me he gets is lathered up as as as anybody else about this thing called recovery and and and that's all we want to talk about we're gonna I'm gonna try to talk for forty minutes or so and then that Myers talked through for as long as he wants to go for it hopefully we get you out of the smoke in in in short order I know that they're gonna take this and would like you guys that even if you don't want to take a bite and help support the cocaine anonymous and that's what this is about a
these things go fund raisers I I yeah
I mean
I was driving a talented this afternoon a genie in our company and we were on the Katy freeway some young over Katy freeway is that if if I don't make it if they if they don't want to it could come close to trigger any I don't know what will Kate Katie freeways that Melvin but I was driving down the deal and and she said Chris look over your left on this big straight semi you know live mobile you know and he says look over their right because his blinds and I'm an old way over for this one and this is this is that there's a better brand new shop the show room paper tag vet's corvette dot and I'm saying like I'm driving a Lincoln rented the Lumina you know
you know it is like and he says UFC one thing about it you know I don't care what we're driving we're all on Katy freeway you know in an event and I think that's where we're at and so I you know I I I see some a buddy from our cottage namas back here and I and I've seen a lot of my friends from Alcoholics Anonymous and and I'm a good I absolutely adore cocaine anonymous a lot of our cats from the fellowships are here and we got a lot of people on different pages in this room and I just need to tell you that in the process of me sharing or not my brother if we don't use the proper terminology
you know what I'm saying sober clean straight not **** up I don't know what how we have your say but if we don't use the right terminology just bear with us okay because it it just takes forever to do this if we if we don't we want to try to get through this okay if I refer an alcoholic in this context please you guys substitute the word you don't know what we're talking about here I hope
if you don't we can hear later I don't
I yeah I got sober in November thirteen eighty seven my first attempt Alcoholics Anonymous was in the in the very early eighties seventy nine nineteen eighty but North Texas that heavy cocaine anonymous at the time up there I tried some narcotics anonymous but basically I spent eight years in and out of the fellowship trying to get well I drank all through high school I drank I was in the food business I was a chef here in in town for for years
drunk cooks you know I mean what can I say that the place is thick with them right now you know and you somewhere along the line about nineteen seventy nine someone introduced me to cocaine and I in turn tried to introduce everybody that I came in contact with the cocaine this is a miracle drug for me because by the time nineteen seventy nine to come around alcohol it said was slowing down for me I you know I couldn't make a case of beer and go to work like I used to be able to do and so all of a sudden I discovered this white powder that would allow me to drink like a sum **** all day long you know and then and then do a little bit more and it is it was a wonderful wonderful product and I proceeded to bankrupt myself for businesses last count trying to stay on top of this thing called cocaine yeah with me I'll call a lot of crazy things for alcohol but but nothing like
nothing like cocaine and and there's a there's a
hi I just got a
yeah I work at a treatment center I do clerical work up in the hill country for treatment center it's a it's a it's a great place that we do a lot of alcoholics and addicts through there and I I know a lot of people in the audience have been through there and that I needed I just need to take it you know Friday a week ago I heard that one of my all time best but to a little girl to come through with alcoholism several years before and we got to be good friends and good friends with her for family and you know how we do sometimes end up
she's down and S. use of the hospital piece of this of this place where they dry out they take Medicaid and and I went down there just to see you're welcome or welcome back you know like we do in that I walked by this place where she was that and I said and I stop on the other side of the room where she couldn't see me and I had to catch my breath because I didn't recognize the woman is safe when she was at at this hospital before she was an alcoholic she was a pill addict and she was she was going to the Rangers and now and now she's back at work as as a crack at it you see and I gotta tell you something about she got caught in a crack house and had the living daylights beat out ever and I'm not gonna go into a lot of details about what happened her you'll know exactly what happened to her but I'm gonna tell you this but there's a lot of levity in this we're gonna laugh a lot but underneath it there's some passion here that I can hide because we don't have time to screw around with this thing called called a crack addiction cocaine addiction we don't have time to screw around with any of it and I gotta tell you something folks one of the reasons that I'm so passionate I tell you that's one of the reasons that Myers is so passionate is that we nearly died once we got to our respective fellowships because we couldn't hear the message it was supposed to be given because we had too many people talking about everything else under the sun except the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous
okay
what
when when I speak from the podium a lot of times you know I just got back from Canada a few about a month ago I'm still trying to get my voice back god it's cold up there I don't know how anybody would live up there you know
but if I voice gives out that's blame it on that but I will see a function up in Canada doing there why they go we're doing see around the world here I was in Canada freeze my **** off doing it up there and it was a it was a cool deal you know but but you think that it would be different but but you know guess what guys you know cocaine in Canada just like cocaine in the states you know it it it drops to the bottom just as fast the only thing different is your your freeze while you're doing it you know I don't know
like I said we go out there what's the little girl that they're hooking on the street as it got can you imagine how to hook it in that kind of weather I I I
well some lessons
but I understand where my passion comes from and I'm talking to a lot of you cats in the audience and understand where I'm adding your and you appreciate this talking you're going to you and so you're not there yet and I'm with you and if you need to go smoke and if this gets a little hot for you but by all means but bless yet yeah
but I'm not going to stand up here and one of the message down because it makes you uncomfortable because I just I'm just not going to do it not now not ever you see in nineteen eighty seven I'll tell you what happened I was about nineteen eighty I started going to Alcoholics Anonymous and and we had a lot of treatment centers up there North Texas they were cranking out
recovered I should say recovering alcoholics and addicts by the thousands and this was insurance companies are still paying like slot machines and there's a lot of people coming out into our fellowship one of the things you see though is that these cats were none of them weren't working the steps but they were terrified as to the Max now I've been accused of talking therapy I have never once not therapy I'm a product of some great therapy but I never got sober doing therapy I got sober because what does the sign say right here when the spiritual maladies overcome we straighten out middling physically I had to have a thing called spiritual experience in order to recover but you see nobody in nineteen seventy nine nineteen eighty we're gonna talk to me about a spiritual experience they were going to talk to me about my inner child until the cows came home you see
you seem a little tense today Chris how are you feeding and I would proceed to tell them I would proceed to tell you know and it's funny you know I can give a talk like this and candidate will talk about how you're feeling I get the same laugh and yet we're going to our meetings and that's all we want to do is sit there and let the red tape that
you don't want to talk about what alcoholism is what drug addiction is out of a book and and it's it's a pretty it's a pretty cool thing because it's pretty simple in nineteen eighty seven I landed in a room full of people of the North Texas some young heard me say this a thousand times but these cats loved me enough to tell me the truth they said Chris just because you come in this fellowship that mean that your life's going to be perfect if that means you're not gonna have some bad days you're going to have some **** base
but because you're going to recover I love my little brother Brandon inner distance you know when he was talking interviews himself as a recovered addict because that's what he is today the desire to use has been lifted from him now I got him I don't know how you can get any more recovered in that
does he still have some problems
yeah he does a
but that was Hogan's goat I can guarantee you that
but but but so all of us do and I think I think I'm coming to you from a little special place tonight because I'm I'm gonna tell you about
I don't know when a few months ago six months ago I guess I kind of dumped in this little depression I I don't know what this is about really I I think I'd midlife crises I think I think I finally just getting old you know I don't know you know but I don't know what this is about I'm working a program I'm doing the deland but all of a sudden happens at work is I stopped paying the button relationships or pain in the **** and I'm
I don't understand what I'm saying
driving down the road driving a desire to have a real good life your god what the **** is up with this you know and it is like you can help me here and it's like okay okay but through all of this stuff and I've been through some real heavy hearted stuff here lately but all this stuff I'm coming out the other side
not obsessing about cocaine and not drinking alcohol you with us in CC that's what this program is about this program is about power when it when I when I first came up to Houston and started talking about five years ago over the good for nothing over bay area well that's one thing that we talked about we talked about power and is a lot of people with eyes like this in that audience because they've never heard us talking about power to meet everybody wants to talk about powerlessness to the god empowers come home and just makes me want to scream save I believe that we have a primary purpose in Alcoholics Anonymous and cocaine anonymous and narcotics anonymous and chicken molesters anonymous or whatever the hell
whatever the hell we're doing I think we have a primary purpose to share a message of hope with that new cover that comes in the door and and and if we can do that then we can pull those cats with a vision then they'll stay in our fellowships I'm gonna tell you guys I got a hospital full of people waiting for me back in the hill country a good again all of these cats have been to our fellowship before how come they didn't stay a lot of you guys stayed a lot of you guys are well today because you walked in the damn door of an a a meeting or cocaine anonymous meeting and said I need help how come probably work for you and it didn't work for them I'm going to submit something to you folks a lot of us want to does the stuff on the table he said well they just weren't ready yet I think it's a damn cop out because I'm gonna tell you somethin folks in nineteen eighty as my first wife is walking out the door and my first business is going down the toilet and I'm puking blood and I and I truly has been ever penny I've got on cocaine I was ready to quit the party and had stopped folks I think if we got some family members in here you might be really interested to understand this we're not sit in a room full of people they just parted too **** much you know I mean I don't know how to explain this to you yeah that's that's that's not a hard drinker set out their level hard drives out there the real McCoy the real alcoholic and drug addict reaches a point where alcohol and drugs
ceases to be the problem
alcohol and drugs starts to be the solution
you with me and now I gotta get up and I got to go back to the carpet but I'm a little box just a little bumpy poo to get me through you know I need to call that girl and ask her out for a date but I need a little courage to do that so I busted another snows will come on guys this is what this is what alcoholism and drug addiction is we used to get through the garden day
do we sometimes overdo it yes it is sometimes misunderstood his party yes but let me tell you something my little friend that sent out the hospital right now they had the **** kicked out of her neck crack house in Austin Texas she wouldn't party in
please please you make no bones about that
if her face able heels he come share with you to
let's visit
I don't see the little guy up here we're we're we're trying to do a couple of quick things here this is the this little issue man you know bay area got the little stickman I'm into it issue ma'am for ages
he's a pretty cool guy this is the kind of show you what what alcoholism and drug addiction is and for some of you guys this this might be opposite what you heard and and again I'm not gonna be after argue with anybody I don't I don't
everything I
I don't know why but I always end up in the controversy when yours will will but you know my sponsor says this well well my therapist says this will I learned in treatment this not eyeing organ argue with any of that it's all good stuff welcome yeah with me this is the the the the bases that we're going to go on I'm gonna talk about some first step step and then a little bit Mars gonna come up and talk to you about some twelve step stuff because I'm gonna tell you find a one reason one reason why these cats don't stay sober if they never get connected and go to twelve step work
but they start off like Roman candles and then they stop it guys that's why I couldn't get sober for eight years
nobody ever said Chris Raymer you got to get off your **** if you're going to get sober I just figured if I kept going to meetings yeah I did it
I didn't I didn't all I did was stay irritable restless and discontent watch the clock on the wall and Kate and could not wait to get out of those god damn rooms because I wouldn't experience and the power they were in those rooms yeah with me it's like going to a gym he wants a big muscles you can go sit in the lobby all you want to folks but it ain't gonna happen did you start lifted some weights you don't
I don't want to draw this up here real quick
my brother got it here in St my board and do all this other stuff
so we all can see this stuff back there some of you can't make a little eyes bigger is younger than
yeah I I hear I just put me up here there you go
alcoholism drug addiction folks is a three part disease we all talk about it the physical allergy coupled with the mental obsession and the spiritual morality and all this stuff you know he gets down to brass tacks this is what makes an alcoholic and alcoholic nothing out there I guess it's part of the most controversial thing I've ever said from the podium nothing else bear causes me to drink and that's that's everybody wants to talk about it we're gonna come back and have a relapse what happened was she left no excuse me a minute because she left him too and he didn't get drunk why why did you think we got to get down to brass tacks low
I know it's traumatic but here again if you're spiritually connected you'll have the power to get through all this crazy **** that's what we're talking about guys talk about power
this work right here in the in the physical piece of this thing is about control you're with me how common is that certain certain ones of us can control this stuff and some of his pants about fifteen percent of US fifteen percent alcoholic and that folks
Ross the board you what you eat you look out over Houston Texas and across the board about fifteen percent of us are alcoholic and addict my god I don't care what what third fourth ward you go to I don't care river oaks you go to them to wear it there's a lot of hard drinking goes on down thirty fourth ward I understand that I used to drink on a bike got a used on hip but there's no more percentage of alcoholism down there in the poor part of town and there isn't a which part of town and we got to get started with this crap alcoholism and drug addiction is a disease
if you're drinking because little money set you on a potty backwards you need to do some good therapy go someplace else hip
okay
yeah or try it backwards it works great that way okay
the physical allergy folks the physical act of doctor support talks about this phenomenon of craving how do you guys ever noticed that some people could do a little cocaine and put it down and so you can't get to a little cocaine inside ma that's
I was over it I I'd take over the little girl from Antoine roads and she and see what we will do some cocaine and I thought I was a big shock because I bought some cocaine on the high road and you this is the I'm a shoo in tonight you know doesn't have it I'm bringing cocaine I couldn't get lied about it to pockets of cocaine folks with that here that's the truth
but I do a little bit she did little bit she said my that's not stuff it says thanks for let me try some of that and I
the last one is was you did you're not going to do any more
she's at all no no I'll be up all night if I do that
well that was what I had in mind I I don't I don't know what the
but what happened was she's different she's a part of eighty five percent she put a little body she enjoyed it but it's making me to feel a little she called it race you make me feel racy
as I call it makes it makes me feel right I don't know if there's a
but I put a little bit in my body and I want some more you see it and but she's ready to stop C. given sufficient reason can you stop state the physical allergy kicks in with me and those times I end up drinking or drugging more than I intended this sets us apart as a separate entity but then you put this mental obsession piece this thing about choice and and that
can you stop given sufficient reason can you stop because you got to get up and go to work the next day can you stop because you spent all your money
we were laughing at the hospital the other day they ask all these crazy questions when the when the patients get there how many D. W. eyes we had how many times you've been in a fight now me all these others worship
to find a cocaine addict you could ask him one **** question one question have you ever gone back to a post machine more than once in a night
is that right
listen dies at a dollar fifty a pop normal people don't do that if they need sixty Bucks they get sixty Bucks but I go by do it every time no I just need I just need forty dollars I'm just gonna do a little bit
and then I'm back again and I'm back again and I'm back at my first love used to look at this is what she did is yes twenty dollars twenty dollars twenty dollars twenty dollars twenty dollars but
what what what happened what happened is that I tend to do that no this is when I went to that money machine at six o'clock I intended to do twenty dollars work you have made a just a little bit what how much did I do
until my ghostly blue light I saw the little sign a couple others as insufficient funds
that's how much I did yeah that's how much idea it's
thank you stop given sufficient reason and and this is phenomenal craving kick in if that's the case folks you're one of us
you're one of us
I can't tell you how many times I've been out drinking with somebody and or doing some bumps or pills or whatever we were doing that night and look over and says says how about some more and they say no thank you I've had enough
you see god we don't understand that
yeah guys that's
that's like having sex in in in in about mid pope sites no that's enough for me
it is going to happen
entangle habit which you see alcoholics and addicts you guys laughing out there because you understand exactly what I'm talking about and the family members they're freaked out because this guy's given sufficient reason bacon stop when they start using vote we do ask any any alcoholic or drug addict you asked what happens when they start using alcohol and drugs and I'll tell you exactly what they'll say they begin to reach a point where they gain control you with me and U. S. getting normal drinker what happens after they've had a few drinks they begin to lose control
save and that's the difference that book alcohol and drugs is not my problem the alcohol and drugs fixes what's wrong with me internally I'm here the rest of this content and I go do a little cocaine and I'm on top of the damn world and I don't give a rat's **** about living in a regi O. hold with a with a beat up car and no job you with me for just a few minutes everything's okay is that right okay
why you live in an ideal could you do too much drugs it doesn't seem to compute though does it you know that is in the computer well I'm going to do just a little tonight and kind of figure out what the problem is they were often
and we do this again and again and again folks until the bottom drops out and we just do it some more and some more and some more because this internal condition is gonna get treated one way or another
and I'm gonna tell you this folks are textbook about cults and Donna's the cocaine anonymous so so wisely picked up eighteen nineteen years ago when we first got our fellowship it got right down to brass tacks about this business about that spiritual malady that will be treated or you will continue to drink and you will continue to drugs you don't have to wait till the bottom drops out to prove that you're one of us folks and I watch people do that every day
this will be treated to a page fifty nine sixteen the book work reach out worked it talks about it talks about no human power can relieve what's wrong with us is that right so why do we spend so much time on human power stuff trying to fix these problems
I'm gonna say say about our real quick one here because I got to get into this real quick and get out so Myers can have a chance to talk
do I want to do that I miss if I want
hi all right I'm what I'm gonna do I'm open up this can of worms down now I'm a purpose what I'm a fiction to talk about because I haven't done this from the podium before I'm gonna preface what I'm talking about with with absolute with my disclaimer saying I've done exactly what I'm gonna tell you guys not today you with me I'm not talking to minister to mount up saying you people are doing it wrong and I'm doing it right that's not what I'm saying I'm saying let's all of us is a fellowship cocaine anonymous Alcoholics Anonymous narcotics with all of this is a fellowship look and see what we're doing all right and see if we're not possibly
head in the wrong direction
okay
one of the most controversial things I've been saying for the last ten years
is that we have gotten off the page by going into meetings and allowing them to denigrate into pissing and moaning contest
you with me war stories or what skill in Alcoholics Anonymous today and I'm gonna tell you something
it'll kill I ate and then it'll kill cocaine anonymous and that's that that's a fact of the all the people to come to our hospital we ask these cats why did they why did they stay and the number one complaint with our fellowship is the war stories because you see the bug tells us to tell war stories that
that's
let me tell you
bill Wilson November the first part the first vote where where bill Wilson and Dr Bob get together no excuse me every comes over and twelve steps bill Wilson and Eddie comes in and the first thing he does with bill Wilson on a one on one basis is start sharing some war stories with you with me and then and then bill weld it talked about back over in the in vision for you Dr Bob and bill get together and they tell that about that that great that great first meeting in Akron where bill tells a few stories to doctor Bob he gets his interest and his buddy got drink drink just what got you with me one alcoholic working with another alcoholic you down with that I'll call it number three this is what it talks about a page one thirty two it says we will re re live all of our sordid past with this cat if we think we can get his interest you with me one on one
it doesn't go into a meeting and share your confessed up
it doesn't sit well that's the truth it doesn't say
here's what we're doing under the guise of the sharing our experience strength and hope here's what we're doing we're walking into a meeting with forty people I think we're sharing a war story okay what are the odds that those people in that room had the same experience you've had I mean what is the best thing in the fellowship we call discernment
you're gonna walk into post club right where you go a little bit the bank's folks in suits coming up for lunch either little ham sandwich and you're going to start talking to them about being gang raped in a crack house
now let me tell you what you've done to that group you haven't done any service I guarantee you all you've done is I United the entire group
I mean what do you what you are you **** knew what
why why would you do something that stupid let me tell you why would you like to hear your head round
you can get a lick of sense what you need to do in that store in that in that meeting is sure some hope with the newcomer because let me tell you something I don't care where those people are in that room everybody could use some more hope good night everybody could use everybody could use a little help from
the book says with your experience we can hope and that's what he's talking about in a meeting that's what we're supposed to be doing do you think I'm going to my main reasons that I think I'm going to midlife crisis could you guys help me
please you got a guy after biological is on the front row but I'm gonna pick up the whole **** meeting talking about my midlife crises I don't think so no we're not going to do that I'm gonna say listen I'm going through some tough times right now but let me tell you something the desire to drink hadn't hadn't hit me and I have been taken to this place of neutrality and I'm having a pretty god damn good life despite the problem you with me
at that point the guy can come to me and then the follow to get with him and share some war stories on a one on one basis I can do that
what happens to me when I stand up in a podium and start and start telling my dumpster stories I I used to get out of dumpsters over here in Houston Texas folks I could tell you some stories to make you cry and there's a few of the people in here to be not a dumpsters they were really really like to work out what I'm talking about the rest of your gonna go to sleep the rest of your going to tune me out well I'm never going to be as **** up as him
in that light
why did I bother to tell you the story of first place because I'm trying to impress you with how bad I was
guys I've said a thousand times for the podium I'm gonna wind this thing down I absolutely do not have the right to try to scare another person into our fellowship
you can't do it
if if we could bill Wilson would put it in the instructions you want to get a new comer here tell your **** war stories to tell about that yet the book didn't talk about that yet the book talks about the good stuff that's going to happen when you get off your **** work the steps that's what it says he
let me read the whole
this is what happened in nineteen eighty seven as I walked into that room I'm going through some problems with a little significant other and
which is a nice way of saying I'm getting laid hi I owe a lot of money I'm having some health problems I'm working from my brother otherwise I'd be on the street the
lesson from the podium for hiring me it but life is tough folks and I'm not a happy camper and and I walk into the rooms believing that it's going to be like every other meeting I went to we're going to sit around and piss and moan about our problems and how to turn on the bank tellers everything's gonna be okay we're gonna go our own way and these guys all carry big books and they all recovered just like my brother was talking about and they were thinking about drinking and drug in that day they were thinking about the cool things that god was having them do the secrecy do you want some of this you will all we got because I'm gonna tell you we don't want to think that you've got
the site if you want we got you come do what we do we're talking about over here about it this way earlier god bless them for sponsorship like that and listen after the meeting if you wanna go talk about the girl we'll go talk about the girl for right now in this meeting we're going to try to find somebody to work with we're gonna go try to find another drunk to work with
I've been sober long enough to work with nobody see that's the problem that's the problem we keep letting each other off the hook and sooner or later we all gotta go do it this is where I want you guys to be my prayer is that little girl in the hospital tonight is in this place it's it's it's called the tents that promises you don't know where it's at
I know that I guess that is down this is terrible this is something else that happened
what my cheaters off
I think I look pretty dignified
this thing dies for years for years nobody ever showed me this Hey here's the fellowship but nobody ever talk to be about power they're too busy sit around talking about power less nuts in it you're just powerless over people places and things I'm gonna tell you again from this podium like I've done every time I talk to you I am not powerless over people places and things I guarantee you the people that I sit with the day I want to sit with the people that I go into business with I want to be in business with I don't do **** today I don't want to do you hear me OK okay that's the power that I derive from the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous and cocaine anonymous that's the power that this book promises everyone of us to have
we foster the fellowship of victims
if you look you want to get little all you gotta do is tell somebody well I'm after all I'm just I'm a I'm a crack at it all all you poor dear well that lets you all that that means you could show up late to work and and and and teach your employer and run around on your watch and do all this at all yeah because you're a crack at it
he
once you recover folks this is what happens I thought the on page eighty four going look at your book
the greatest promised in the book it says we cease fighting anything or anyone even alcohol could you believe that **** even copay we stopped by
so much for Twitter's list there huh so most worried about walking in the seven eleven down here because I got some alcohol in there you don't want to go in there because it might cause you to drink don't listen that listen I don't want anybody to come that dance tonight they're going to listen rumor has it they're going to be playing rock and roll
in my body's going to be there and she can be shaken and I'll tell you what you don't know what's that because then what that's right baby you are looking at you look at it you
and she's always shaken it and that's that triggers the **** out of me you know what I'm saying
one one five just just because you
I know because I've recovered and I don't know I don't have to do that today by this time it says sanity will have returned to sanity will have returned we are seldom we will seldom be interested in liquor cocaine if tempted we recall from it like it was a hot flame here it is we react slightly normally and we will find that this happens automatically
we will see that a new attitude towards liquor and cocaine having given us without any thought or effort on our part it just comes that's the miracle of it we're not fighting it neither are we avoiding temptation we feel as though we've been placed in the position of neutrality safe and protected we have not even sworn off instead the problem has been removed it does not exist for us
this is Helena regroup we react so long as we keep in faith spiritual condition yes
this book tells us how to keep it a bit spiritual condition folks and it doesn't say I pray every day it's as we get off our **** shoulder to shoulder one alcoholic one cocaine addict together going to get another one that's what we do you're with me that's what my brother's gonna talk about right now
yeah
next question
the clerk
let me know the state board
no no no no no I
I know I know they said if you don't tell about that sheep are you go
no I'm not gonna tell everybody from hill country sooner or later you get you get drug out of the field with the sheep or I'm just telling you
in nineteen eighty seven when I got sober I was working for my brother and I gotta tell you something both he's gonna take a little bit about his story and what he's doing but I'm gonna say this he probably worse with more alcoholics and addicts than anybody else I know and he in Dallas does the same kind of stuff I do in the hospital he is out there carrying a message of hope and he's going to talk about that but he but this is this is the classic stuff folks what works for him will work for you the same stuff that I did work for him and this is this is a common solution that we talk about and some of you guys in here feeling kind of hopeless I'm gonna tell you something about grab hold of somebody with some Latin awry in absolutely hopefully it's a pretty girl yes and and go do this work and go do this work you'll give Myers big hands thanks
mmhm
Barbara my name is mark Raymond I'm an alcoholic
but
how do I do that again
I'm a garden variety drunk and I would I'm a garden variety drunk who did does expose drugs and
it is so good to be here I can't tell you there's no place on god's green earth I'd rather be than a meeting just like this with a bunch of guys just like you it's that it's the damndest thing I got a couple things real quick
I walked in this room and saw that sign and almost wept almost wept a great Christmas the Christmas
seven years in the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous not one person showed me that not one person and all that no wonder I was twisting in the wind and died in the fellowship guys
let me preface this whole thing I am the poster boy of middle road solution I guarantee it I know more half measures crap that you'll ever think up
I can tell you how to piss off more time in Alcoholics Anonymous in a in CA to any other man you'll ever meet trust me on this trust me and I'm proof positive that you can hurt like a big dog in our fellowship you can die doing this deal or what you think is this deal there's so much stuff out there we'll talk a little bit about that
you know there's
I want to thank those guys and ask us to come do this too because this is the coolest being able to share a podium with with my hero Chris and I and I'm
some
although some you think he's a son of a **** but you know I could save my life twice in Alcoholics Anonymous two times once when I sobered up in eighty eight and again seven years later when I was twisting like a big dog curtain in this fellowship our call Christmas at Chris I'm in trouble and he came to my rescue one more time and got me hooked up with a group of big book bumpers that that that showed me a solution right out of the book so I could lay my opinions down finally I could lay it down and that's the stuff that we're going to talk about
you know we call this the good C. Betsy tour sometimes that when we do this stuff
or as I like to think it's three guys are better than two of
at any rate
it in any listening to Chris Paul just a minute ago
I want to give this take to my mom but after hearing Chris talk I probably I probably could do had
I'll be better than Chris honest and for you guys that Chris stepped on
for you guys the Chris stepped on and you're feeling real real hurt right now and real tweaking about the whole thing you come see me after the meeting I'm your go to guy man will stand back over in the corner will take its inventory and and
that's why I'm here that's why they call me the good seed him the Betsy that's it
not actually
more of you'll get tweaking about what I'm gonna say I think but anyway
somewhere on the podium
at about six or seven months over this is a new plan in late eighty eight
a guy said you know in the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous there are good twelve steppers in bad twelve steppers and if you're not a good one stepper you don't have any business carrying the message
all right you got a picture the scenario man I'm in a middle road group where where god's been taken out of our meeting we don't talk about got anymore because we're going to scare off the newcomer I was there the night they made the decision to do it and I didn't have the guts to say anything I didn't know what was in this book of Alcoholics Anonymous
by the way you guys it brought those books do not bless you I saw a bunch of big books in this meeting and you guys great at that door god bless everyone of you that's what in a C. A. N. A. needs right there
so I'm thinking
this man I could kiss this guy that night I could've kissed because he took away every bit of the responsibility that I had Alcoholics Anonymous you see because I'm not a good twelve step you see and so
but we all do that don't wait let me ask you a question
you start going through the work and what's what's what scares you more than anything
twelve step work somebody says summit this something said in a meeting some night this about well at some point on you're going to have to carry this message somebody else you're going to go over well you know when I get good recovered and I get all the stuff under my belt they'll be on the show me when it's time
it's all
right now if you want you got you got a job to do with the guy that just came in here this morning you got a job to do guys that's your responsibility this stuff a hold in the ridge the fellowship at bay is crazy that's why so many of us are dying that's one
only a a was so your your
he said it's a good number all the time and
that's why old A. was so effective because they have they force you to see your truth and then they made you carry the message those that their why it wasn't a choice I mean it wasn't something that you did if you just sort of felt like it and we approve the allies that twelve step if you got your big book you can read it don't worry I'll read it to you that prospect that says having had a spiritual awakening as a result of the steps stop right there
if they're that we're all going to operate under tonight we're all going to go on the same page in the plane the pages this all of us have had decided change if you haven't had decided to change you don't have anything to tell you
I know that makes some of you feel uncomfortable I know it does and I'm sorry
god bless you keep doing what we're doing and I guarantee you'll have that trait that spiritual awakening is what we Kerry to the other guy this isn't about our opinions
having had a spiritual awakening is the right result these days we try to hear this message to alcoholics and to practice these principles all our players you understand that
picture this situation S. seven years sober I'm suicidal I'm right hot checks over didn't county I get this it's just a bad deal my life is falling apart Chris is gone by now he's moved to the whole country on their Dallas all by myself home of middle road solution I might add
and I'm just going nuts man I can't find it we're going to going to all these meetings I'm doing everything I think I'm supposed to do
and I'm getting real sick
and I start to get physical with my wife again and start to do the old stuff that I used to do my kids are getting scared again they're starting to duck when I walk in the room because I never know where I'm going to come from any you guys understand this stuff you understand what it's like to be this this virtual reality that we're talking about you being consumed from the inside by the stuff that's going to kill us and I don't have any way to I don't know what to do I'm calling Christian going Chris man I'm dying here man if this is what I'll call it an armistice about I don't want I don't want to
and so he gets me in with these big book bumpers they carry me through the work again and I begin to understand
after a couple weeks being that meeting god love those people at primary purpose group click bishop in those guys god love them because they loved me enough in a couple weeks to tell me the truth and the truth was Myers you're an arrogant self centred fearful son of a **** and you don't know anything that's in that book not one thing you think you do
because you've been to a jury in meetings and you compare all kinds of stuff but you don't really know what's in that big book you don't know what our solution is all about so the things that you share or horse crap
then you have the power to kill people I hear people say this all the time any meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous god
because I've got better things to do than to be in a room full of arrogant egotistical people who have known
do you understand what I'm saying
I would have been some of you when I say that
but it's the truth our meetings have gotten so sick and so convoluted that nobody can recover were hurt in the fellowship no wonder nobody's doing the deal
so I start learning within the big book and I'm getting on fire and I'm going nuts and man I'm calling Chris we have a meeting we have three meetings a week they're also
if your base meetings we got no discussion meetings we column discussed in meetings
we got no leadership on that no discussions are all literature based meetings in every other night of the week we're expected to be out here in the message someplace else and that's what we do
our group now goes to almost twenty four twenty five at last count different places every week
there's there there's a jillion guys in that group and gals and every night of the week we're out someplace carrying that message it's huge and accept it if you don't want to carry the
message you don't last long in that group
so I'm still holding this whole thing kind of it bay I'm having that so I could change I know that I'm having this I could change our member sit in this meeting one night and I remember going this is two years into that deals on out ten years over
I mean nine years over so I go cliff after this meeting I said you know there's still something that bothers me I'm looking around this room and I'm looking in the eyes of the other people at that table and you know what they look different than me there somethin bear it's not in my life and he goes no **** I've been trying to tell you this for years now I've been trying to tell you this what's different is that you keep holding twelve step work at bay like it's something that's an option and it's not an option you'll do the work Kelly the message or you'll get out
you'll never have with these men and women have until you start hearing the message but I thought it was I thought it was pretty rigid I thought it was kind of well you know
there's my organs again like I my case is different you say
but cliff bishop held me accountable and he made me do the things that I was going to do it he said Wednesday that I want you out there to hear the message and I was out there
and it was a painful painful experience
salvation army a room full of thirty five black men and I was scared spit I didn't know what I was doing I wish it was just
damn it was uncomfortable
I got through it I came home that night a call click on the telephone is equipped with I did it he's a great how bout Friday night back out there again I went
yes Sir click
I go back out there Friday night this guy walked up and hugged me and I'm thinking well this is odd in the things start changing I don't know about those guys I don't know but the men in that room but I began to change inside that night the second night that I went out there
I'll cut to the chase on that stuff we were there for a month or two and then another deal opened up and I went over and set that thing up and we've been there for years doing that deal but at the end of that month or two of being there those men
one by one stood there and hugged me and told me how much they love me and guys I wept like a baby I wept like a baby because these men had taught me
everything I understood you know it's funny we come to Alcoholics Anonymous in a in CA and everyone of us deep down inside be truthful yourself everyone of us wants the secret handshake recovery don't we we do we think officially somebody's gonna come up and say you know Myers you're okay but we're gonna take you to the back room and we're going to show you the secret handshake
and it's going to be done you're going to be fixed
well I'm gonna show you the secret handshake I'm gonna tell it to you right now the secret handshake of Alcoholics Anonymous it's called the twelve step
you're going to have a psychic changes resulted doing twelve simple steps with a sponsor who has had that psychic change he here
and then you're going to repair that message to another alcoholic and in doing so one alcoholic with another your life is going to be changed immeasurably your life will be changed
I hear guys all the time said well I just got my life back why
you start to panic what is what I just want my old job back in my life back I'm going to shoot your beat up drug addict why in the hell would you want that life back
when god tells us in step three that we're going to be reborn right will have a new I got a buddy of mine that goes to those with me every Wednesday night at this place home about
and John Carlson do over here playing marbles and when you're a kid or something like that you go all right I mean I thought that I thought that I want to do over
that's what we've been given as a result of doing these steps of bagel do over ma'am we can take another look at it another one at life old and this time we're gonna be doing it from self from god's will instead of self will this stuff but I rode up here earlier but looks like a mini retarded person wrote I'm so sorry I can't
what we're talking about this the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous in a in CA has spent the last two generations concentrating on this
relief
relief I guess I can assure you I don't care who you are what you are what your deal is I can keep you busy enough in our fellowship to give you all the relief you need
will you be happy I don't know will you be free of that drug of choice I don't know I doubt it will you still be worried about those triggers
yeah yeah a sponsor this guy went down he said Matt Myers you know my biggest trigger is there's this girl I dated one time that smell this particular way and every time I smell that smell I just want to use
what do you do
how do you avoid the smells you know
this is this is this is what relief is brought us this is this you say
what we need to do is get focused on the book tells us over and over and over again about freedom freedom freedom from that drug this thing of obsessing and and and get all twisted up about this stuff
do the work and I guarantee you the freedom that you seek will be there and then daily you'll seek god's will in your life god will will will gradually conf will gradually change your life from the self will part of god's will you're living life and god willing the freedom will be there it's the way it is the way the found that the program was set up
let me put this into perspective how how how far this is straight the only thing that separates you from good twelve step work
is your arrogance your elegance and your ego because your ego saying on it's gonna make me feel real uncomfortable I may say some super I don't want to
if you look in your big book on page one thirty two it says we have recovered and been given the power to help others it was given to you
you don't have to do it it was given to you because you did the twelve steps you had the cyclic changes the result of doing the work you'll have what you need to do it you'll have it I guarantee you will this you're going to have to accept on faith you're just gonna have to accept that I know what I'm talking about because I've seen it happen in so many lives since we've been doing this kind of stuff
I want to read something real quick
I give a stupid no scratches the worst part about a mustache
on page one sixty one and a vision for you this this just blows me away read Mr at the very bottom of one sixty it says
picture this situation these guys are just left a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous this guy and his wife they were leaving they believe in this meeting his wife would leave the lady by the thought of what they could now do for some stricken acquaintance in his family they knew that they had a host of new friends it seems that they have known the strangers always they have seen miracles and one was to come to them they have vision the great reality they're loving and all powerful creator
what is different in that story from your own life these guys left the meeting and all I can think about is how related they are but the fact that they can tell you this is a recovery to somebody else guys look if you if you don't do this deal if you go in the back you're ripping you sent a stupid discussion meetings and you start doing all this stuff and then you twist off when you get loaded again tell me that this fellowship doesn't work because
what
what were some mill road happy where she is guaranteed to give you some relief
the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous or CA in that in that deal the fellowship didn't work because you're too arrogant self centered to try and that's it
and you'll realize that one day you will I guarantee you will
I'll take a festering and I'll shut up there's this guy
there's this guy that came into detox one night at his home about his place in in in in Dallas where we go all the time one of the places that we go and
he walked into his little blue stuff you know the old tire any sitting here just a mask this guy was so scary looking he's been living in this truck in oak cliff sleeping in the back of the truck is in the middle of the summer and somebody pulled him out of the back of the truck from a gang out there it's pulling out of the back of a truck by his feet in his face and hit the floor and busted all his teeth he's got his red hair that sticks up straight and he's just a mess and he stinks and he's just
what kind of guy man
and who does he have to sponsoring me and I'm just wondering
we go through this stuff Terry
Terry never bought anything I ask him to do every time we were there he was there this guy lives in oak cliff he catches the bus to the meeting which is way across town from there
and then he catches the bus in the middle when I'd go back for months he does this and this kid's life is on fire you can see it in his eyes you can see it every thing that he does and says you can tell that this kid's got what he needs
instead of sit on his **** wait for the state getting the job he was in line for a bunch of a TRC stuff what do you do he comes up to me after meeting one of the smart money ten Bucks and I said well you know what I don't lend money to guys and I said I've been through this thousand times on thousands in the hole but before doing anything I need ten Bucks until Friday I said you got Terry I gave the ten Bucks you know what to do with the money he went out and bought a brush and a bucket any grabbing another guy in the fellowship and they went out and started this little window washing business and they started washing windows and he starts putting together some money and he starts getting to get to my little part and then he gets his driver's license back as a commercial truck driver long haul truck driver and Terry's lights on fire and
I walked into a meeting one night and there's Terry with a new guy from one of the treatment centers any sitting there he's got a big break open on his lap and he's sitting there carrying the message of recovery Terry's been sober now at that point two months maybe three months and he's carrying a message of recovery to this new guy coming in there and I just lost it out man
the kid to carry the message to that night is still sober and still goes to our group and I see him all the time Terry is now doing this long haul stuff across the country
and he stops all these little towns and he goes to these meetings and when they don't have anything but a stupid discussion meeting he steps up to the plate and he says let me make a suggestion let's get back into the big book any change meetings all over Tennessee and Kentucky all over that state this little guy with no teeth
you can barely talk is melt the so messed up and he's got these guys Colin long distance going Terry Terry we coming back to town we need you out here
and he heads back to Tennessee so we can make another round to those groups the damndest thing ever he's got a little wife now they live in Montana and he's doing great
I could tell you a hundred things just like that god love you I could take a hundred things just like that that have happened over the years as a direct result of doing this stuff guys it's about one alcoholic working with another alcoholic one cocaine addict working with another cocaine addict what the miracle of this fellowship happens when we do that and if you do that you will get better and the the stuff that you think is so important I got guys that I work with and they keep saying Mars I got a job today a great
well you don't sound real excited I said well you know what but if you want to honest truth I don't give a rat's **** if you've got a job today I really don't I want to know two things how much time did you spend with god today and how much time did you spend working with another alcoholic that's about it
the what that's not really what I wanted to sponsor I want I want somebody to I want somebody to vote around with screw it
the boat around with
this man and this man and you should
yes I'm in a meeting two hours before every meeting we have on there two hours early so I can talk about that guys day in his job and his girlfriend and his car it is you name it whatever you want to talk about I'm gonna be there to do that before that meeting but when that cowbell rings we're going to talk about the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous
in a hundred and sixty four pages
that's what we're gonna talk about nothing else because the book tells me about talk about that gotta take care of every other problem I've got the legal stuff the the the the the the relationship stuff all the stuff that's got you twisted up tonight all the stuff the money everything will be dealt with if you'll just do the work sounds simple it is simple idiots
all our I'm done please do this it if you're going to a group if you go to a group now that second all twisted up and you can't get any relief there go find another group please wait
I don't know
if your sponsors all it is not doing what he's supposed to be doing if you're sponsored by people as no doubt how do you pick a good sponsor you do it it's real simple you walk up to him and said so have you had a spiritual awakening as a result of doing these steps and if you look at you like this go find somebody else
it is not so I could change
because he's got nothing but some friendship to pass along to you I know that offends some people I'm not trying to offend you but it's seven years sober I had to go right back to this work again you can do it fifteen you can do it twenty
if you flip to you today if your selection board with recovery
go back to the work was somebody's head that psychic changes you will be
hi Paul Chris one more one Friday morning at the media for Chris
I don't know how I'm going to be able to tell you this I'm really embarrassed to admit it did you know that pink cloud stuff they talk about an Alcoholics Anonymous the stuff we felt like when we first came in the fellowship all those years ago he said yeah I'm starting to feel that way again
you know what he said he supported me in Berridge
the P. cloud as a gift from god and we ought to be feeling it every day and if you're not feeling it today guys it's your fault
does a lot of recovery and I love I love this stuff more than anything in my life
it is brought so much to my life my wife loves me
my daughters don't duck when I walk in the room anymore
I have I have boys around I've got everything a man could want I've got
but most important
I get calls all the time
let me tell you something if you think what I'm saying is worship you you want some night wait until you get this call about eleven o'clock at night from a woman who's crying and she's thanking you for bringing her husband back
because of the message that you Kerry to that man
you see
that's what Alcoholics Anonymous is about guys the blessings of being able to carry a simple message of recovery not my opinion a simple message recovery out of this book to someone so that they can recover and have that change is the greatest gift we've been given and I can't tell you nothing would make me prouder than to have this group standing shoulder to shoulder with me walking through this stuff this message to a bunch of people that are out there to not hurt I'll be here with you man thanks for letting us come
